on the contrary, actually.
I’m not highbrow enough.
I think you’re aware that the word “pretentious” is officially banned on The Auteurs… It obviously depends on with which kind of people you decide to hang out, I never get called “pretentious” by my friends, because some of them share my passion for film, and others at least understand it. Those who don’t have a passion for anything will have problems to comprehend the joy of exploring world cinema, but it’s their problem, and not ours.
“I think in these times being pretentious is sort of heroic.” –Frank Cottrell Boyce
I would have thought it would have been more common.
The word pretentious has fallen out of favor from non-pretentious folk.
Pretentious folk use the word pretentious all the time.
It’s like the word bourgeois. It’s a word only used by those who define it. You don’t see truly proletariat people ever talking about the bourgeois. They’re too busy working outside.

There is a pretense to most things in life, I have been called it.
Maybe for how I dress or for how I speak about Music or Cinema, but it comes out of being passionate for both.
I don’t mean to make other people feel anoyed, I’m just confident that what I have seen or heard is either good or bad.
I’m just a confident person, I am sorry they express themselves differently to me and are intolerant to how I do.
They might have a pretense about me by looking at me, like I might about seeing a Quentin Tarentino film. Both are fine, people judge and are judged its happened throughout history. People need to get on with life.
Occasionally, but usually in jest.

As movies are often a social experience between friends, you have probably exposed your taste to your friends at some point. I get accused of being pretentious quite a lot, and considering I am not nearly as highbrow or ‘extremist’ as many others. I wonder what it’s like for some of you?
