how was it?
i saw paranormal activity a few weeks ago and was kind of underwhelmed. i remember the ending be so cliche and typical hollywood bullshit. only after did i find out it wasn’t the original ending. so do you mind explaining what the original ending was? i’ve been really curious. thanks in advance.
I’d be intersted to know, too.
All I know is that the studio wanted an edning that left open the possibility of a sequel…
I think he just started this thread to hook people.
Made me look.
Is the alternate ending as underwhelming and dull as the theatrical version?
Yes
ive seen both endings, to be honest the theatrical ending was better, more scary at least (isnt that the point?). The original ending definitely lacked. I didnt feel like the movie was going for anything beside the scare factor, there was no plot it was just a late night flick to get your blood pumping. With that said in todays world of horror films I think this was one of the better ones. 3/5
and who else wants their $15000 film to gross 61 million dollars? absolutely unprecedented. completely amazing.
any care to explain what the other ending was like?
(the non-speilberg ending)
So I’m assuming the version I watched online (surfthechannel generally good quality) had the original ending and here she goes.
(Spoil’n)
On the 21st? night Katie wakes up and stands at the side of the bed doing the sped up several hour ordeal like before. She later walks out of the room and downstairs and begins to scream. Micah runs after to check on her and he screams followed by silence. After an actually pretty eerie few moments we hear footsteps coming up the stairs and Katie walks into the bedroom with blood on her stomach and a kitchen knife in hand. She sits down next to the bed disturbedly rocking back and forth. The shot stays here for the period of the entire next day. At some point during the evening a friend or someone knocks on the door. They walk in all while Katie stays rocking and find Micah dead, scream and run out of the house. Still with the same image of Katie even later that night, more knocks at the door, this time being the police. We overhear radio communicating while the cops slowly make their way around the house with flashlights finally coming to where Katie is sitting. She runs up to the officer, whose gun is drawn, asking where Micah is. The officers yell at her to put down the knife but in her insanity keeps moving towards them and is shot dead. The final shot shows Katie’s feet near the doorway while the officers search the rest of the house and it fades out to a “in memory of Katie and Micah” photo.
So there she is. From what my friends who saw it in theatre, that ending (which is basically shown in the trailer) doesn’t seem as good as this one.
I was totally underwhelmed by this movie. One moderately creepy scene but no real scares. 3/10
I’ve only seen the original ending. What was the ending to the theatrical version?
speilberg’s cut:
after katie walks up the stairs and enters the bedroom, E.T. and Indiana Jones both kick through the window and a 23 minute long battle ensues and the T-Rex ultimately wins with the help of George Lucas’ flannel shirt. (cut to credits)
Theatrical was waaaaaaaaaaaay better. Don’t even bother with that other ending
the ending in theaters was the only part of the film
that was remotely interesting
take away that ending and you
take away the film’s balls ):
yes. this was the most overhyped film i’ve ever seen, and as a fan of suspense, i was incredibly disappointed. it would take more than an alternate ending to change much.
@Kyle: i knew the theatrical version was lacking. enter e.t., indiana, and a t-rex and perhaps we’d have something to talk about. maybe even close with a pan to the the calm, blue ocean, symbolizing the impending doom of yet another crappy movie waiting to draw us in to shark-infested waters.
i had three beers while watching this movie. a fourth may have made it worth while. maybe.

yeah.
