I want fractionated ratings

in lieu of the original piece of snark I posted here rating this particular thread, I had an idea…
instead of making something meaningless more intricate…
why don’t we have a system to rate threads?
not a 1 out of 10 format, but more like a simple “hot or not” vote, which would then gauge which threads are most popular among users, and are bumped to a special hot topics tab, measured after a certain number of votes. this way, unpopular threads that are nothing but flame wars would likely get low votes and not appear, while more popular threads would appear near the top. it’s a rough idea, but it can be worked out.
not only would this provide an idea of what threads should be stickied (i can only guess that sticky threads are on their way), but would provide an interesting barometer of the current discussion at MUBI.
