IF WE IGNORE 81/2 AND DOLCE VITA, WHAT’D BE THE BEST FELLINI MOVIE?

MY VOTE GOES TO LA STRADA

Alonso Díaz de la Vega

That’s a hard one, but I’ll have to go with Amarcord.

La Strada followed by I vitelloni, but I am yet to see Amarcord. Something I want to change very soon.

I think that Nights of Cabiria, La Strada, and I vitelloni are all equally good. Just depends on your liking. I cant pick between the three.

Nights of Cabiri and yes Amarcord

Satyricon.

I second SATYRICON, undoubtably one of the most extraordinary films of all times.

I Vitelloni is another unquestionable Fellini masterpiece.

I would also go for Amarcord than Juliet of the Spirits.

Juliet of the Spirits wins hands down as it has all the elements of classic Fellini: bizarre characters and situations, stunning visuals, surreal sets and use of colour – all Fellini at his peak. For a secondary choice, I will go with the earlier La Strada – a negelceted early masterpiece – Fellini at his neo-realist stage, with a touch of his later style.. Later, he seemed to have lost it and got excessively self-indulgent and too much into his own obsessions (Satyricon, anyone?). Amacord is a good film, too, when he came back to his senses (after a few too many lapses), but Juliet is Fellini still in his prime.

I’d say Amarcord, but also maybe Juliet of the Spirits or Nights of Cabiria

Nights Of Cabiria and I Vitelloni are both superior to 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita, as much as I enjoy the decadence and pageantry of the last two.

I’ve never really been a big fan of neo-realism. So the Fellini I’m drawn to is the more phantasmagoric Fellini. That’s why I like the world he creates in Satyricon. It’s one of those movies that you always remember when you first saw it. (Especially if hallucinogenics were involved.)

Amarcord.

or The Clowns…a wonderful, long-forgotten film.

All Fellini are just marvellous. But Amarcord, I dare to say, is even better than 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita

Amarcord or La strada…

Either JULIET or CLOWNS. I wish I could cite SATYRICON because it’s such an epic work, but it just doesn’t work for me.

JULIET — probably because it was my first Fellini film. I love LA STRADA and CABIRIA also.

Each of these picks share MASINA.

I love SATYRICON for the sheer heights and depths of its imagination.

If a friend who’s completely unfamiliar with Fellini asks me to introduce this great auteur to him/her, I put on TOBY DAMMIT.

The White Sheik, and of course La Strada, I Vitelloni, Variety Lights and Nights of Cabiria.

City of women. Great social commentary that is still prevalent after 30 years.
