I’d say La strada…
but I also love I vitelloni and Amarcord
My vote goes to Satyricon.
La Strada
Wow. No one has yet said what I was thinking…
. . . And the Ship Sails On
Amarcord is actually my favorite Fellini movie all-around. La Strada would be a close second here.
My vote goes for La Strada— I wasn’t as much of a fan of Nights of Cabiria.
Juliet of the Spirits
La Strada… what a beautiful film.
Satyricon (which I’d rank above La Dolce Vita, actually)
i would go for amacord. i just can’t resist the carnivalesque feel of this movie.
for me it’s tie between amarcord and I vitelloni
La Strada
Nights of Cabiria
Roma. What a beautiful film! Then Amarcord, close behind.
I Vitalloni,It’s linear, narrative and probably Fellini’ most autobiographical. So touching and quiet in the best moments.
I have no idea why but I have yet to have seen La Dolce Vita… I guess that should be at the top of my Netflix queue…
Either way I love Nights of Cabiria and I might even love it more than 8 1/2, I just completely fell in love with the film from the opening scene and the music in it is so beautiful and it will probably be my favorite Fellini for a long time! I also love Satyricon that was my favorite Fellini for a while. City of Women is also a magnificent little gem. I also remember loving Amarcord but I haven’t seen that in a while.. Depending on the day and my mood I might substitute any of these with 8 1/2…
La Strada
I still have a few more to see, but La Strada stands out for me.
Only one other has said Roma? I cannot believe it. You other must not have had the pleasure of seeing it yet. It’s a beautiful, beautiful film. I can’t get enough of the end motorcycle sequence, or the fashion show, or the traffic jam…I could keep going.
Much of what Fellini I enjoy at a moment is based on how I feel at the moment, but the moment is always right for Roma. Although I really do enjoy Giulietta Degli Spiriti, the mood is not always right for that.
I’m also quite partial to Ginger and Fred, but I’m partial to all Fellini.
The so-called “trilogy of loneliness”, which so beautifully underlines the theme of redemption: La Strada, Notti di Cabiria and Il Bidone.
And, of course, I Vitelloni and the much underrated Fellini’s Roma.
La Strada
You can not beat Toby Dammit borrowed from Poe short story for sheer unease.
I Vitelloni
Amarcord, no contest!
Amarcord
La Strada…followed by Amarcord. And if you give them a chance both AND THE SHIP SAILS ON and CASANOVA are very worthwhile
I got to watch Amarcord again, recently. I liked it much more than I did the first time. I was also impressed by Roma. I didn’t care for La Strada. Too melodramatic for me and it lacked the fun of Fellini. But of what I’ve seen, 8 1/2 trumphs all. No other film I’ve seen captures the feel of being under stress. A masterpiece, along with aforementioned Amarcord.
Nights of Cabiria.
