If you chose the 10 best picture nominees for the Academy Awards

NEONBEAR

I’m curious to see the movies everyone would choose if the Academy Awards scrapped the 10 nominees for this year and put up your choices. Keeping foreign language films out since they have their separate category. I’m asking this because i’ve seen a lot of people commenting on the films chosen and I’m interested in seeing some alternatives.

Moon? Antichrist? Imaginarium? Bad lieutenant? Tetro? Let’s here them.

The Cove
Tyson
Broken Embraces
Fantastic Mr Fox
Up
Where the Wild Things Are
Michael Jackson’s This is it
Until the Light Takes Us
The Damned United
Me and Orson Welles

Tough to find ten films, honestly, the academy would not give more than one “foriegn” film a best picture nom so I picked Broken Embraces

This topic is uninteresting if you aren’t allowed to put in foreign films. It is called ‘Best Picture’, therefore it should be awarded to the best film of the year regardless of what country it’s from. That’s what I think, anyways.

I’m indifferent to the English language films because it wouldn’t be much better no matter what you add.

Sin Nombre is Mexican, In the Loop is British, Thirst is South Korean and Sugar is…something Hispanic. Moon is British too.

A Serious Man – American
The White Ribbon – German
A Prophet – French
Fish Tank – British
Police, Adjective – Romanian
Like You Know It All – South Korea
Thirst – South Korea
35 Shots of Rhum – French
Love Exposure – Japanese
Munyurangabo – Rwandan

In my perfect world.

alright say we do add foreign speaking films to the mix. i was just curious to see how different things could be under the oscars limitations. but i’d be interested in seeing a straight 10 of any kind.

Of the forty 2009 films I’ve seen, I don’t think I could come up with five nominees—which is kind of a bummer.

Its not a very good movie sek
but it is the kind of movie that at least attempts to capture a mood and and something deeply personal while staying cinematic

I gave Up three stars. And I lean toward four at times. I just think it is too plot heavy and dull in spots but u cannot beat the first 30mins

Stephen Prokow

The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Paul Blart: Mall Cop
Jennifer’s Body
2012
Miss March
Year One
Obsessed
The Final Destination
Sorority Row

If I don’t take the Academy Awards seriously, surely they or anybody else take my picks seriously. But those are my real picks.

I can’t lie. I’m a sucker for big award shows glamour. The Oscar bewitches me. It’s just a shame that is such an overrated award.

Jose, the show would be great to be at, I agree. But what they do with the awards is a different story.
