If you had to remake the Godfather who would you cast ?

I was watching the movie the other day and was pondering this question.

FYI, De Niro would never play Don Corelone. Ever.

Probably I would kill myself. They’re destroying one of my favorites.

I would never remake such a classic.

D’oh where are all the great young Italian-American actors nowadays? I’d be pissed if a British/Austrailian actor was cast. I don’t know why but I get annoyed constantly watching people from the UK do regional American accents in roles – except for Bob Hoskins.

Eh, I’ll play. Why not?

Michael Corleone – Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Sonny Corleone – Ryan Gosling, maybe Dicaprio.
Tom Hagen – Willem Dafoe
Kay Adams – Natalie Portman, maybe Blake Lively
Fredo Corleone – Adrian Brody

The only one I can’t imagine anyone else playing is Vito Corleone. Brando made it too iconic. Daniel Day-Lewis is the only one that comes to mind.

^ nice.

I think JGL is a strong actor but does he have the gravitas for Michael Corleone? It’d be interesting to watch for sure.

Channing Tatum as Sonny Corleone – not as strong an actor as either of those above but has the explosiveness of James Caan.

Also while Adrian Brody resembles John Cazale, I could also see Michael Imperioli doing it if it weren’t too similar to his part in The Sopranos.

Even if they wanted to (they shouldn’t, ever), there are no actors working today with the necessary quality to remake “The Godfather”. It’s sad to notice but very few good actors emerged in Hollywood during the last 15-20 years.

tom hagen is supposed to be the same age as sonny though? williem dafoe is a good 20 years on Ryan Gosling. And you would think thast you would choose italian americans not just hollywood stars

also you would have to fit James Gandolfini in there somewhere because of his amazing portrayal as Tony Soprano

Pauly Shore for sure.
And that guy who used to be married to Drew Barrymore.

Godfather: Steve Coogan (though Warren Beatty would be fun)
Michael: Kal Penn
Sonny: Michael Cera (really, Michael and Sonny here could be interchangeable)
Fredo: Harmony Korine (“I’m your older brother, Mike, and I was stepped over!!”)
Kay: Sasha Grey
Tom: Roberto Benigni
The sister that Talia Shire played: Jason Schwartzman
Luco: Bill Murray
Moe Green: Adam Carolla

I agree with Carlos.

It is very hard to find actors today, in America, who have the look, and maturity to play ANY of the characters in the Godfather.

Also, it seems that people today are becoming more same looking. Not enough ethnic features, and people are too fat.

I think it’s definitely a testament to the film that most of us can’t think of anyone

They’d wind up casting Brad Pitt as Michael, Matt Damon as Sonny, and Jeff Bridges as Don Corleone. Directed by the Coen Brothers, it would be acclaimed as a fresh take on the original and get ten Oscar nominations.

All British commonwealth cast – that includes Australia y’all!

Michael – Tom Hardy
Don Corleone – Anthony Hopkins
Sonny – Sam Worthington/Eric Bana
Fredo – James McAvoy
Kay – Rosamund Pike
Tom Hagen – Matthew Goode

The cast of Jersey Shore.

Seriously, why touch a classic?
