IMDB IS CRUEL
People here need to put in the extra effort to make this a decent place to come and hang out. This should continue to be so no matter what and keep it somewhat of a decent place or else it becomes no more than those other places.
The vast majority of the time this site is a safe haven from places like that. About once a year we have a forum blowout where we collectively get the shit out of our systems (I talk like it’s site-wide but it usually involves about a dozen people).
Despite all that, we’re actually pretty good at killing the real trolls (no, Uli, not looking at you.)
imdb is terrible place. I used to occasionally check it, but never posted there. After a couple times, it was enough. There are some interesting posts from time to time, but often it is just a war based on accusations and personal issues. Plus, too much trolling.
Mubi is doing a good job so far. I am pretty satisfied with its forum and network. Some really thought provoking discussions.

I post my reviews over at IMDB (only to be welcomed with a majority disagreeing with me to find that my opinions do not differ greatly from those on the top, but whatever), but have stopped looking at the forums. This is the place for real, intelligent discussion on cinema.
I have tried on occasion to post on IMDB, but usually have to go through my E-mail sometimes to find my password.
The only time I have had decent discussions was when Bigelow was up for “Hurt Locker”, and most posters then actually were up for decent discussion of her career.
What I find funny is that trollery is ignored, but profanity vanishes.

On IMDB, half the members on the message boards talk in senseless dirty trash, calling each other names, and repeating that damn “troll” term, all over movies and TV. So far, I haven’t encountered much ugly trashy talk on MUBI so far, which is why this site is better for talking calmly and peacefully about movies. I don’t how people get away with talking trashy and trolls all the time without ever just getting deleted against their wills from the account when they can’t learn to watch their mouths. They do the same on YouTube as well in the comments below videos. It just never ends. I like visiting those sites but I just get sick of the fowl offensive trash they throw across the boards. I don’t even know what the hell a troll is supposed to be and who even invented it.
