It is a very disturbing (also somewhat campy film: the wife) film that I had no desire to watch again.
I haven’t thought about this film for a long time, so this is going back quite a few years, but I remember it as a precisely lurid S&M freakout.
I just watched it with my gf and I didn’t find it all that much disturbing. The subject matter was a little uncomfortable, but I think I’ve been desensitised to the whole paedophilia angle after I saw “Happiness”.
This film is indeed disturbing. Maybe the graphically violent acts are no sweat for the Fulci gore generation (not criticizing, just observing), but the way they symbolize the corruption of a person is what provides the biggest shock. The first time I saw this I hated it and thought it was senseless and gratuitous ugliness, but I revisited it not so long ago and, though I still think it wallows in sensationalism somewhat, I perceive a strong and structured denunciation of the transmission of violence from older generations to the next ones.
i didnt find the film disturbing at all. I did find it to be extremely boring though
One of my favorite date movies ever!!!!
If I’m with a lady that can deal with it, she’s a keeper…..
Needless to say, it has not happened yet:(
Sounds like your all in a glass case…of emotion

My reaction a day after is still one of exhaustion. Few films have left me wanting to take a shower afterward or feeling generally disheveled. I didn’t find it particularly disturbing in terms of watchability, granted the descriptions of Klaus’ acts were uncomfortable and seeing children die on screen is something that rarely happens in cinema, but eventually the film’s subject matter wore me down and after it was done I was generally disturbed. The final 15 minutes are such a masterful culmination of the all the elements of cinema that I was left speechless. Its the level of filmmaking that makes it such a tough film, but I think I might revisit it because the aforementioned elements come together so beautifully that it demands repeat attention. This is coming from someone who handled Irreversible, Come and See, Gummo, and other films labeled disturbing with relative ease. So for those who have seen it what did you think and where would you place it in terms of disturbing cinema.
