I would say, Gus Van Sant, Roman Polanski, and especially Brian De Palma, i think it’s obvious and safe to say that the only reason of why he isn’t considered one of the best American directors of the last generations it’s because of this.
They have a lot of fanboys that would argue otherwise though.
Gus Van Sant has made plenty of ordinary films as well as turkeys. So has Depalma
