Is anybody else currently learning a new language?

After a year of slacking, I’m finally buckling down and studying Korean. I must say, it’s been pretty fun (esp. with the aid of a good flash card system for the computer and a very nice English-Korean-English dictionary app on the ipod touch). I memorized about 150 nouns in the past week, and I’m starting in on verbs soon. The Korean writing system is super easy to learn, and also incredibly efficient and logical.

Anyway, are any others currently learning new languages?

I have difficulty learning new languages, but I intend to start learning Japanese over the next few years because I intend to VISIT Japan within the next five. Right now I only have a smattering of French and an even lesser smattering of German. It makes subtitles fun because I can sometimes tell when they’re a little off, but otherwise I still couldn’t watch the movies without ’em.

I’m onto my fourth language – not that I speak any other languages fluently including my mother language (Korean)…
I never thought anyone actually learns Korean. It’s interesting to know that people actually learn Korean, though.

I’m learning Italian, and I find it much easier than other languages, but it’s still molto dificile!

After all, I get to watch a lot of Italian films, and I’ve been watching intolerable amount of Pasolini recently. If anyone has any good recommendations for any Italian language films, you’re welcome.

I’m learning French right now. It’s a slow but rewarding process. I could learn it a lot quicker if my schedule wasn’t overflowing with stuff. But in a year or so I hope to have it down fluently.

I want to learn that alien language Anne Heche used to speak but Rosetta Stone doesn’t offer it. Thanks a lot, Michael Phelps.

I’m always working on trying to perfect my written Korean. I work as a translator, but all of my work has been from Korean to English. And I’ve been in the process of trying to improve my conversational Japanese. It’s getting there. I’d love to be able to regain the decent knowledge of Ancient Greek and German I used to have. I just don’t know of any native German speakers in Hawaii and I’ve pretty much completely forgotten Ancient Greek. Such a shame.

Japanese off and on for a couple years now.

EDIT: Pretty much everything PolarisDiB said.

I’m studying French, and have been feeling euphoric (and, also, a bit smug) because I’ve been reading more poetry lately and have just begun reading ’L’etranger’ in French (though, it helps that I’ve read it before in translation). I dabble in Italian and Spanish a bit when I have time (which has not been often lately). I’m also saving up, so that I can begin taking a Russian or German class later in the year.

I would love to learn Japanese, Mandarin, or Hindi, but they’re all very intimidating!

Been trying to learn Japanese for years now.

I know a smattering of Spanish from what I learned in high school.

Miss J: Well, I live in Korea, so it makes good sense for me to learn the language.

Dimitris: I studied Latin in middle/high school and a bit in college. I used to be pretty decent at it, but I think I lost pretty much all of it over the years.

I’m a Spanish major, and at this point I’m conversational, but it’ll be while before I’m truly fluent. My dream is to also learn either French or Italian, and then one of the Slavic languages, but we’ll see. I’d really like rosetta stone but it’s so freaking expensive and I don’t have any room in my schedule to take any other courses.

Used to be fairly competent in French, but have since lost all but my reading ability. I’m conversational in Japanese which is helpful with my work because I teach English to foreigners, most of whom are Japanese. I’m still struggling to learn more, but there’s not enough time left in the day after work, eating, sleeping, watching films and reading… and I don’t even sleep that much. I’d love to take a lo——-ng break from everything to do stuff like learn another language.

I’m eager to learn spanish and I hear the best way is through Rosetta Stone, but it’s way too expensive.

Jaeger, let me tell you, Rosetta Stone is worth it. I know it’s expensive but Rosetta Stone is pretty much like 3 years of education at school in a few hours. After I did my first one, the first thing I thought was ’What’s the point of taking a class? What a waste of time.’
