James Cameron: Fake 3D

Jack Lineman

Dose anyone else think he is being an ass by insluting every new film that comes out in 3D that was not made by his camera company in interviews. He keeps calling them “Fake 3D” but you can still make a good 3D using film if you plan out every shot for 3D. I even read that he said something about “Piranha 3D” that it was not worthy for 3D, even though he directed Piranha 2. Just because it was not made in 3D but that was only because his cameras don’t shoot water well. I can also remember him being upset over Tim Burton’s version of “Alice in Wonderland”.

James Cameron is in no position to complain about Fake 3D as long as he keeps writing Fake Screenplays.

off topic, some of the ‘’deep-focus’’ sequences in citizen kane could be labeled ’’fake’’ as gregg toland occasionally employed back projection to achieve the same effect! the opening sequence in kanes childhood home is a example of this technique. notions of artificiality do not apply in an artificial medium like the cinema!

All “3D” looks fake to me. Looks like real shit though! Maybe someday someone will figure out how to do it reasonably well.

Of course Piranha 3d is a crapfest. I thought that was the point. To see some over the top visual thrills and laugh at how stupid the plot is.

James Cameron needs to put less emphasis on 3d visuals and more emphasis on 3d characters.

Isn’t anything not actually three dimensional “fake 3-D?”

It’s a fake fake!

If this thread points some lost soul in the direction of Welles’ F for Fake then this topic would become useful (no offense to the original poster, that was directed more at Cameron’s ridiculous stance).

Mark Canton, I Salute You:

“Mr. Cameron, who singles himself out to be a visionary of movie-making, seems to have a small vision regarding any motion pictures that are not his own. It is amazing that in the movie-making process – which is certainly a team sport – that Cameron consistently celebrates himself out as though he is a team of one. His comments are ridiculous, self-serving and insulting to those of us who are not caught up in serving his ego and his rhetoric.”
