Just saw the film tonight. It’s not very good. But interesting to see the documentary value of the representation of New York City, and also to see the influence on the New Wave. This seems to be the film that gave a huge inspiration for Godard’s “Alphaville”.
It’s actually not so much an early film as a mid-career film, or maybe a transitional film somehow. He had already directed 4 films before this one.
Gaumont released the dvd. The quality is excellent.
Hidden Behind the Screen
In english, Two Men in Manhatten. It’s one of Jean-Pierre Melville’s early films. Does anyone know where I can see or buy it? I’m a huge Melville fan and I can’t seem to find it anywhere.
