Her last role was the Towering Inferno
For my money her best roles were in madame bovary and beat the devil
she will be missed

She reached ninety, was Bernadette of Lourdes and took home the Oscar for her portrayal. Not too bad.

And she survived being married to David O. Selznick.

My favorite Jennifer Jones roles were Cluny Brown and Ruby Gentry!

she was selective in her roles and she also played in a fantasy flick (Portrait of Jennie)

for my money, one of the best U.S. actresses ever.

I am saddened to hear the news. She was the Jennie in the wonderful Portrait of Jennie – where she is unforgettable. See this thread if you are interested in exploring this film, which is a fitting tribute to her, engineered by her husband David O. Selznick:

Robert, you’ll enjoy “Portrait of Jenny”. Agreed, she was never more sexual than in “Duel”.

Uh huh. Quickens the blood.

I’ve only seen Portrait of Jennie based on that thread and it’s huge recommendation and I have to say that she was incredible in it. The movie worked so well because you could see why Joseph Cotten’s character would be inspired by her enough to make a great piece of art.

I’m trying to think of an actress with a more mercurial, expressive face.
Nothing so far.
It’s true that Jones’ shift from a young girl to an adult woman in PORTRAIT OF JENNIE
is a remarkable performance, but a more subtle transformation—and one that’s all the more convincing for its subtlety—takes place in SINCE YOU WENT AWAY.
Brilliant role in an inexplicably overlooked and currently under-appreciated picture.
If you want to see Jones take that expressiveness into the stratosphere,
by all means see LOVE LETTERS.

From the evidence of her performances in CLUNY BROWN and BEAT THE DEVIL, it’s a shame she didn’t get a chance to do more comedy. She had a flair.
