Severin releases some very nice transfers. Very good news. All we need is Tusk now.
Great, now I can get rid of my junky bootleg copy.
I don’t know about Tusk, Alejandro formally disowned the movie, and probably won’t be trying to bring it to any screens. I’d much rather see King Shot and/or the El Topo sequel get out of development and finally get made.
What we really need is The Holy Mountain on blu. Then I’ll be satisfied.
Santa Sangre is a bad film imo. I used to love it in the 90’s but re-watched it a few years ago and had a bad reaction to it. It just seems cheap and tacky and designed purely for shock value. It lacks the artistry of his earlier work like El Topo and Holy Mountain imo.
That makes me sad that it ages badly. I used to love it in the 90s too but haven’t seen it since. Was looking forward to the DVD release.
^^well you could disagree with me Ari, who knows. it just seems less original overall too. and it’s not just the Psycho references either.
Best news all day!

Finally! One of Alejandro Jodorosky’s classic films is being released on both DVD and Blu Ray after being out of circulation for decades. It comes out January 25, 2011.

It’s even being shown at a few movie theaters in anticipation of the DVD release.
Hopefully if/when this sells like hotcakes, Alejandro will finally get that El Topo sequel Abel Cain shot and finished by the end of the year after so many delays.
