Yeah, reminds me a lot of David Gordon Green’s George Washington and All the Real Girls which are heavily influenced by Malick’s work. Nonetheless I like the commercials.
“Maybe the world breaks on purpose so we can have work to do”
Interesting line considering that Levi’s closed all of their manufacturing plants in the US and Canada the past decade and moved it all to Asia. I guess one plant is something to base an advertising campaign on. Beautiful commercial though.
I take that 2nd last line back. They never opened any plant in Braddock.
Now I really despise the ad, Hillcoat or not.
Levis are so pretentious!
Apparently they are donating a million dollars to Braddock over a two year period and all of the models in the ads are citizens of Braddock.
I saw this on TV the other day and thought “Wow, somebody likes Malick.” They’re even using a music selection from The New World. I had no idea HIllcoat directed it until seeing this thread. Makes sense, I guess.
Well good for them for donating a million dollars. They probably save that much every hour using child labor in Asia.
saw this ad last night and it made me want to puke violently. i deeply wish film directors would avoid using their talents to hawk products. Also, yes, i know it’s Wagner and available to anyone but this smacks more of rip-off than homage. That it’s ripoff from a work of such beauty and eloquence as the new world upsets me to no end.

Hmmm… I’m not sure how Malick would feel about having his aesthetic used to represent a corporation
