Apparently not. I predict a butchery.

Please don’t let this happen.

Neil Jordan remade “Bob Le Flambeur” — and I’m sure we all recall how that turned out.

Keep this hack away from Melville.

John Woo’s career died the moment he accepted Van Damme as a leading man by American producers…

this will be just the peak of disaster and (as Doinel pointed out) of major hacking…

It could use an improvement.

This bothers me far less than the remaking of Straw Dogs. One has to ration one’s outrage lest one becomes consumed.

Bobby Wise

umm, and he already remade “le samourai” once, right? he simply cant be THIS strapped for ideas.

Yeah and Gary Ross is going to direct Venom, Marlon Wayans will be Richard Pryor, and a new National Lampoon’s Vacation movie is in the works.

Good news is coming from all directions.

Bobby Wise

hes not even really overrated. he hasnt had much of a following or even much attention since he started making films in hollywood. hes average, at best.

David: Neil Jordan remade “Bob Le Flambeur” — and I’m sure we all recall how that turned out.

Actually, it was pretty good.

NO. Put a restraining order on this person. Decent individuals don’t threaten to butcher works of art.

Arjen: I wouldn’t put faith in a remake just because the director likes the film. Remember, Zack Snyder said that he reeeeally loved Watchmen, but look how that turned out.

Of all the remakes of late, this one is not too profane. Woo has always worshiped Le Samourai (I recall a poster on the late 90s rerelease that had a quote from Woo calling it “the perfect film” or some thing to that effect). What I don’t understand is why anyone would want to remake their favorite film. What kind of hubris does it take to remake a film that you already think is perfect? Anyway, the chances of Woo making a good movie nowadays is remote at best, especially if he chooses to do it as an English language film.

kyle

of course he wants to remake this.

…brett ratner is making movies. paris hilton is acting. saw 7 is currently in pre-production…

does news like this really surprise anyone?

isn’t this old news? I thought he’s been saying this for years.

the all original fantastic idea is rare, indeed. steal steal steal, and in some odd sort of way kill kill kill.

Elmen Tsarukyan

He will ruin it…instead of a cool bird in his room, there’s gonna be a fucking pigeon, and it WILL fly, in slow motion, maybe even out of the main character’s trench…

The Killer is a remake of Le samourai already (itself a remake of Branded to Kill).

BRANDED TO KILL pwns LE SAMOURAI

Wow.
COPS VS. THUGS looks incredible.
Thanks.

^^Fukasaku’s Yakuza films are a lot more hard-toothed than Suzuki’s; Fukasaku never went in for Suzuki’s style of flippant dark comedy, but rather focused on social commentary (which can get pretty tedious at times). You might, however, want to check out Blackmail Is My Life (1968), where Fukasaku does work in that genre of campy Japanese gangster comedy, not a great film, but an enjoyable one.

“One has to ration one’s outrage lest one becomes consumed.”

I like your comment, KJ. It made me laughed.

And I hope I won’t have to see Nic Cage and his toupee in another bad John Woo film.

Into the Void

Aargh…I just happened upon another Melville remake that’s about to start:

it wont be Nick good for nothing cage. It will Jason Statham with black hair..

I’ve never considered going to a theater armed with a Molotov cocktail before….. until now…if they make this movie. This whole remake thing never interested me. stop remaking. Come up with your own idea’s. people should start getting more adamant about not allowing people to do anything with their works.J.D. Salinger’s done it. Alan Moore’s tried to do it and all with good reason. Just Imagine the worst of it: Michael Bay remaking 2001 A Space Odyssey. sshhhmoosshhshh I think my anus just prolapsed.
