shhhhhh!
As far as i know. I got kicked because I couldn’t keep a good ratio with my computer’s connection, but I raided that place as much as I could before my 2 weeks was up.
So why is Karagarga so much better than Surreal Moviez? Do they really have that much stuff that SM don’t?
yes
Is there anything on this site that I couldn’t find on there?
How much better is it than SM?
i don’t think KG is better than SM.They are two different community both of them are great of course,on based on
torrents(KG) ans SM.KG is hard place to cope up with,if you fail to meet the ratio you’ll be kicked out.You have to get an invitation to register @KG where registration @SM is totally free. That’s the main advantage. The people are more friendly @SM.Believe me,i’m a active member @SM, so i know the real differences.KG is the best place for torrents and SM is the best place for RS links.I think you should check for yourself if i’m true!!!
“Do they really have that much stuff that SM don’t?”
-it’s not always true but you can always make a request @SM.There are wonderful ppl who will fill your request
snatching things where you don’t have access.“poenir” and “MrElg” they are the best to fill your request so far i saw.
Excuse me if I’m wrong, but SM doesn’t end up being free, right? Because in the end you need to have some Rapishare membership thing right- otherwise your downloads are limited to just a few?
Jesse: I’ve downloaded a ton of stuff without a membership. What you have to do is get a program called (or like) JDownloader, and you just copy and paste all of the links into it and it automatically downloads them. There is still a 15 minute interval between each link, but it goes by pretty fast regardless.
About the topic, I got KG three days ago and I don’t think it’s really that great. I had a long list of films I couldn’t find downloads for and I only found about a third of them on KG, which is nice and all, but it just didn’t live up to the ‘hype’ for me. SM is still an excellent site and more and more gets added on there all of the time, so IMO, KG is barely better than SM without taking direct links and the ratio into account.
So can someone give an example of afilm that can be found there, but almost nowhere else?

Does anyone have the 4 hour cut of COLOR OF POMEGRANATES? Is it awesome? What?
Never heard of any of them. I guess I’m not such a hardcore cinephile that I would need this site. Pirate Bay + my local library (+ surreal moviez maybe) seems to be enough for me…
And frankly, the whole concept sound very elitist to me…
Well yeah, if it can’t be found on SM then it’s pretty damn obscure. And I’m not trying to be elitist. I just really want to see some of those films.
Ben: The 4 hour cut is on KG, too.
I didn’t mean you, I meant the concept of the site itself.
Thanks Robley. I’ll try that.
What? There’s a 4 hour cut of “Color of Pomegranates”? I just saw that movie this weekend and loved it! I have to have this
As one who uses both services — somewhat extensively — they fill the same niche, but in different methods. They both provide you with access to rare and obscure cinema, that’s been clarified already, but what KG has over SM is speed and dedication to the best quality out there. Let’s look at Lola Montes (Ophuls), it’s already on KG in it’s Criterion restored goodness, but it still has it’s old DVD quality on SM, and because it’s torrents you get a better version and it would be at your disposal a lot faster.
As for SM, there are countless films there, you just get it a lot slower. RapidShare is slow, I have to wait approximately five or so hours for a normal 1.3 GB film; I think a Lav Diaz film took me 24 hours (I’m not sure, since I just set it to download and did stuff.) And there are times when a film doesn’t have subtitles or the subtitles are just utter dog shit. There are also some films that just aren’t on SM like Shirin Neshat or Nina Menkes, but there are some things that aren’t on KG also.
They’re both great tools to discovering great films, KG is a little more hard work, and it’s hard to not go crazy like a kid in a candy store after just learning about all these types of candy he’s never heard of so he wants to try a bunch of candy, but he has to contain himself or else he’ll get kicked out of said candy store. While SM is more like being at a buffet: it’s good, and you have lots of choices, but you have to wait for that douchebag fat guy to get his food, so you can get what you want and, no, is that a cucumber in the salad? And why aren’t there baby carrots? You hate this place, but you keep going because it’s cheap and low maintenance.
“And it’s hard to not go crazy like a kid in a candy store after just learning about all these types of candy he’s never heard of so he wants to try a bunch of candy, but he has to contain himself or else he’ll get kicked out of said candy store”
Amen!
Does anyone have any invited to KG? I don’t know what I could trade for it but I’m open to whatever. I just want to see the 4 hour cut of “Color of Pomegranates!”
Surreal Moviez sucks.
4 hour cut? Wow – never knew what I was missing. I do know one thing I’m missing, though: Michael Snow’s Rameau’s Nephew. So, if anyone can help me out, membership or otherwise, I’d be supremely grateful…
“Surreal Moviez sucks.”
whatever “Bean”….i just hope this was a joke…

“Surreal Moviez sucks”
why do you say this? Got a problem?
Shahidullah -
Well, yes and no. I wrote that in a fit of pique, having just spent the best part of two days downloading 14 100MB chunks of a (quite obscure) film only to be met with a mesaage when I tried to unpack them into a watchable file, saying that one or more of the files was corrupt . So no film at the end of all that.
It is in fact an excellent resource for hard to find stuff, and it is free to leech as much as you want, but unless you’ve paid for a rapidshare subscription it’s very time-consuming and can on occasion be quite hit and miss in the end, as evidenced by my experience above. But as it’s free and unrestricted there’s not really much room for complaint.
As a comparison though, the next day I decided to download four equally obscure films from Karagarga (including the one I failed to get from SM). I set them to download late in the evening, went to bed and they were all ready to watch the following morning.
Surrealmoviez is an amazing site. It basically makes Karagarga a non-luxury.

i haven’t had any such problems and i’ve already downloaded quite a few stuff and without the need to suscribe or anything. people need to stop nagging and stop over-pumping themselves with “obscure” films when they know beforehand they won’t like most of them as the ones they already like, usually the canonized ones.
“McBean” yeah i see your problem.Shit happens but you can’t just say Surrealmoviez sucks!!! anyway…good luck to you…:)
BTW….if it says one or two files are corrupt, you simply need to redownload the corrupt file/files.It can happen and it’s a common problem of WInRar archive.May be you’re not very familiar with this problem…..Anyway
Shahidullah – It’s cool. I don’t really think it sucks. I was just annoyed at the time. Good luck and happy downloading :o)
