Ken Russells THE DEVILS and Michael Manns THE KEEP

So many films that are out of stock, deleted or have never been released on DVD and Criterion decide to cater for us patient film lovers by releasing 2 films that have already been released previously. I dont know who makes these decisions but as great as the Powell and Pressburger films are i cant help thinking this company is losing the plot regarding what should or shouldnt be released. A boring selection of new releases once again. Oh well, at least theres Blue Underground who seem to give a toss about there customers.

I can’t think of any filmmaker whose movies I’d rather see in HD than Powell & Pressburger.

I agree with you that there are many films I would love for them to get the rights to, but in the meantime, I’ll gleefully take these in HD.

Thank you, thank you Criterion.

Was The Devils ever released on dvd?

Anchor Bay released it for a little while. Just as they did with The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover, and it too went out of print very soon after.

I have a copy of The Devils on DVD from a company called “Angel Fire” or something silly like that. It is basically a PAL rip/bootleg, but it gets the job done… it even has all the “deleted” scenes and a BBC documentary about the making of the film included…

Last time I checked it was still available if you search around a bit online..

@Tommy: I know about “…Cook…” but did Anchor Bay release Devils? I’m not familiar with that release at all…

For some reason I thought they did but now actually looking for the release, it doesn’t look like there is one. I thought the copy that I have was from Anchor Bay, but I guess not. I think I got Ken Russell’s Crimes of Passion release mixed with The Devils. Sorry.
