Kiarostami's budgets.........

I read somewhere that ‘Certified Copy’ cost around 3 million Euros to make, which is reportedly the largest budget he has ever worked with. Does anyone know how much his films in Iran cost? especially in the 90’s? I’m curious.

I remember hearing that ‘Close Up’ had a decent budget, but it didn’t do particularly well at the time. wonder what they meant by ‘decent’ though.

I’ve always read that Close-Up was “low-budget,” but have never seen an actual figure. I, too, would be interested to see.

Definitely the largest budget by far.
Since the average cost to make a movie in Iran in the mid 90’s was about $90,000
and considering his movies were considered low-budget even in Iran,
I doubt if any of his movies up ’til Certified Copy cost more than $50,000 Joks

a majority of it too for his projects that were shot digitally would have come from the digital to film trasnfer which ranges from $30,000-$45,000 for a feature film.

thanks for the input guys!!

i figured Taste Of Cherry was around 50-80,000, but figured maybe T.W.W.C.U might have cost a little more, especially after T.O.C won so many awards.

If Certified Copy is anything to go by, i wish he would return to ultra low budget film making ;-0

Obviously Certified Copy was a rare film that he got a relatively larger budget + to work with professional cast.
