The Danish release has been moved from September 11th 09 to May 29th 09 (wow, a film moved forwards for once?)
The subject matter, cast, screening review, and other shenanigans just proclaim that this could be one hell of a film. Is anyone else excited for the direction Trier is going?
Never seen one of his films, though that is a very intriguing shot.
this movie is going to be amazing. I’ve enjoyed everything Mr. Von Trier has given us. That production still blows my mind.
amazing still. Good to see him rediscover his ecstatic side. I like Dogville, but generally his last 5 or 6 movies have been rather dull looking. This should be good.
Is that the woman from Science of Sleep?
Also, von Trier, to my mind, is one of the biggest personalities in film today. He is the stereotypical auteur in that his personality is imprinted very heavily on all of his films, while at the same time he’s kind of a megalomaniacal dictatorial force. I mean, shit, he added “von” to his name just to sound more important. Basically, he is the epitome of pretension, but, in my opinion anyway, it is justified pretension.
Yes, that is the lovely Charlotte Gainsbourg (also from I’m Not There), and Willem Defoe.
Yes, it’s Charlotte Gainsbourgh and Willem Dafoe.
I was a bit disappointed when I heard that this wasn’t going to be an epic and horrifying tale of the Antichrist itself, but rather a psychological “cabin in the woods” horror film… but that image is incredible.
Kifah Foutah, you should check out THE FIVE OBSTRUCTIONS if you haven’t seen it already. I kind of feel the same way as you about his last few movies except this one. it’s one of his best IMO. This new one looks really good too. I hope it doesn’t disappoint.
Nice! Can’t wait to see this. Read an early review of it a while ago and it sang high praises for it.
I bet that there’s going to be real penetration in this movie. GANGBANG! so pumped!
I actually did like that one now that you mention it, Straw. Did he direct that one? I don’t remember. In general though I do miss his visual sense. He had one of the most exquisite and consistently eclectic visual palettes in movies, but I think he lost that once he went digital/hand held. From the likes of this, it looks like he got his visual swagger back.
Oh no, I fear what he has done to poor Charlotte………..I hope she’s o.k….
Well, we’ve learned from Fishing with John that Willem Dafoe gets real sweet around bedtime. So with that said, I agree Kifah, poor, poor Charlotte has probably been defiled by a green goblin.
Looks AMAZING! And I agree about The Five Obstructions. Loved it.
The trailer is online! See it at http://antichristthemovie.com/
Hmm.. URL’s aren’t automatically made into links, but perhaps this works..

I’m not really into horror movies per se, but I’ll admit this looks pretty good.
I love Willem Dafoe’s narration in the beginning of the trailer, an almost word-for-word reference to the wonderful opening of Europa, but with Eden now being the final destination we’re attempting to reach.
My only visual complaint with the trailer is that I wish all those arms coming out of the roots were undulating and caressing the two lovers. That’s the image I had in mind when I saw that still at the top of the thread.
Oh, and also… it seems that von Trier has decided that it’s his place in the world of cinema to create stories and situations solely for the purpose of torturing both his female characters, and the actresses that play them. I kind of like that bravado, to recognize that he has an unfortunate reputation among the women who have worked with him, and deciding that it’s best to just go further in that direction, and really live up to the reputation, so long as it results in a film he’s happy with.
This is a wonderful thing to wake up to, I loved the trailer. I’m also curious if studio’s are gonna try and market this abroad, since Horror films lend themselves quite nicely to success.
Oh my, this might turn out to be the best film of 2009. I wish I could go to Cannes… Hopefully I can work there next year. von Trier has never let me down. It seems like it will be just Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg, amazing. I love his visually swagger just as much as his non-visually swagger films, they all seem to be extremely innovative and add something different and wonderful to the world of film.
Man, my internet connection is incredibly slow…
Wow… Lars von Trier is quite the fat old man these days, huh.
He could retire and be a college proff. with that kind of look.
I think that’s Lar’s dad.
A fine trailer promising tasty treats, but hasn’t Larry Fessenden been working this ground for some time? And, Lars, man, ease up on those Jagermeister shots, it’s showing.
willem dafoe doesn’t age.
Dafoe is god…
I love his voice, and he also so happens to be the coolest dude ever. (see, Fishing With John ep. 4)
Antichrist screened at Cannes and Roger Ebert offered some initial thoughts.http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2009/05/for_even_now_already_is_it_in.html
