“Cocaine: One Man’s Seduction” (1983), a made-for-TV film starring Dennis Weaver, James Spader, and Jeffrey Tambor. 3/10. Pretty funny (not intentionally), but somehow a bit better than it could have been.

Leslie, My Name Is Evil

perfect mix of young love and Vietnam creeping up

of Christian ideals vs the lure of someone like Manson.

This is being marketed as a docu killer film like Gacy but its

not it is a film of creativity and humor, the kind of film John Waters would make if he was not so close to the case himself.

There is a dead spot in the film, which could ruin the entire film.
It says: we are trying hard to make this terrible stuff funny so you will be entertained.

I was.

One of those 70’s indie films with more interesting stuff around the film than in the film.

Marguerite Duras trying to say we are watching Loden’s ineffable aura – that she captured on film her real self. Duras asked Loden’s husband Elia Kazan and he said his wife was an actress and acting is what we are seeing.
Assuming Duras can tell an aura when she sees one, what does that tell us? What is the point of looking at someone’s aura?
Duras was creepy…

Your mind will wander during Wanda; she is after all a drifter, a floater, a wanderer.
Nonetheless, the ending is poetic enough to pull it all together.

Manhattan – 9/10

I still can’t believe that the first time I got to see a Woody Allen was in my intro to film class. I’m a senior and one of the few people not majoring in film, and yet I was the only one who had seen every film the professor had shown up to that point. In fact, before she started it, she said to me, “What Woody Allens have you seen?” I had to embarrassingly say that he was the one filmmaker that I just hadn’t seen anything by – not that I was working hard to avoid him, it just happened that way!
“Manhattan” was a brilliant film. She’s also going to show “Crimes and Misdemeanors” later in the semester.

The film is clunky (e.g. the marker ”End of the road” with the mine field following?) and I kept thinking how to remake it more poetic. But the film is what it is, and that is its charm.

^ As much as I respect Vlácil (based solely on Marketa Lazarova and this film), I still think A City of Sadness should have beaten it.

Yeah, the way Adelheid was done completely captivated me, but what did it say exactly, life is hopeless?

Milos Forman’s 1967 The Firemen’s Ball does that and makes you laugh too.

this is most welcomed.
