Satantango- 9/10
This film has alot of praise on here so i decided to give it a try and i was not dissappointed, i am very hesitant about buying films after 1990 but this film is great.
- Un Conte de Noel (Desplechin) – 7.5/10
- La Scaphandre et la Papillion (Schnabel) – 6/10
Coup de torchon: 7.5/10
Mon oncle: 7/10
Rachel Getting Married 6/10
One Two Three: 9/10
I’m surprised this isn’t talked about as much as some other of Wilder’s films.
THE WEDDING DIRECTOR, Marco Bellocchio — 5/10. This is the man who made FISTS IN THE POCKET? I keep coming back to him therefore — Good Morning, Night and My Mother’s Smile, but am becoming resigned to the fact that he’ll never go there again …
encounters at the end of the world 6/10
herzog is always, always worth watching . . . . . . . i enjoyed this, but compared to some of his movies that changed my life? thanks, but not one of my favorites!
atom egoyan’s the adjuster – 7/10
Just saw Gladiator and I’m giving it my lowest score ever:
7 1/2 thumbs up
Killer of Sheep 9.5/10
so cheap and so simple, yet so beautiful and honest. i didn’t know what to expect, but i’m glad i saw it. this was a very good film. i’m sure i can think of more later, but its getting late and i’m distracted by company…
Drowning by Numbers 8/10
A great Greenaway, but no Baby of Mâcon.

Nobel Son: 4/10
marley and me: 2.5/5
Dead Like Me:9/10
Perhaps if I hadn’t popped this in expecting very little (was working my way through a pile of review discs), my rating might not have been so high. But it’s sweet, touching & has a surprisingly deft streak of humor.
La Strada: 6.5/10
Diary of a Chambermaid: 7/10
heat 1/10, michael mann . . . . . . what was i even thinking?
: JonnyB, Heat, a 1/10?? really???
anyway, for me the last movie I saw was Lucky You (2007) and it was god awful. I was recommended the film because I play poker and it’s a poker movie. This is, without a doubt, one of the worst movies ever made. The screenplay is paper-thin, there’s no interesting conflict, the two leads have ZERO chemistry, and the main character has no personality. There are a number of awkward poker pro cameos, it even has Jennifer Harmon playing a character for some reason. Even Robert Duvall manages to suck in this thing.
Lucky You, a REAL 1/10 kind of experience
Let the Right One In – 9.5/10
Best foreign film I’ve seen in some time.
Two English Girls – 10/10
Has Truffaut ever made a bad film? If so, I’ve yet to see it.
Sean-Fahrenheit 451 is a pretty bad fiklm from Truffaut.
JohnnyB-Heat a 1? I’d give it at least an 8.
Broceliade 1/10 Proves the French can make horror films that are as bad as anybody elses.
The Death of Mr. Lazarescu – 6.5/10
Technically it’s a great film, but it is just so relentlessly ugly that I don’t think I could ever watch it again.
400 Blows – 10
Série Noire – 8.5
Hadn’t heard of Patrick Dewaere until I had seen this, but his performance is amazing.
Watchmen – 7
Definitely not perfect. Had some pretty crappy scenes (hallelujah), but some pretty brilliant moments as well… (Opening credits, Rorschach, Manhattan on mars…)
Time(Kim Ki Duk) 7/10
Synecdoche, New York: 9/10 Really hit me, brilliant imo.
Also watched ‘Nor Noise’, a documentary on the noise music scene and am working through the ‘Treasures IV: American Avant-Garde Film, 1947-1986’ set.
4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days 9/10
Comes off as one of those bare-bones dramas, that allows the actors and the drama of the situation lead the audience, instead of manipulating them with music or lots of “raw” emotion, which is normally not raw at all but overplayed. its direction and camerawork are minimal, which makes it all that more effective when we just sit and watch and listen to the actors. the actors here were superb, especially Anamaria Marinca as Otilia and Vlad Ivanov as Bebe. She caries the film and you feel bad for her, but also think she’s foolish to allow the people she cares about, especially her best friend Gabita, treat her how she does while all she’s trying to do is be helpful and do good by them. He is both vicious as a man who is exploiting these women, but at the same time caring as a doctor who wants to make sure these women he “helps” aren’t put in harms way (though he might just be covering his own ass, since if they die or go to Hospital, he goes to prison). this was a difficult film to watch, which is probably the point. very convicing, very well made, highly recomended.
Dirty Work 6/10 – Purely rated through the lens of nostalgia. If you didn’t originally watch it at the height of Norm Macdonald’s fame (1995-1998), the true rating for you would be 3/10.
Watchmen 9/10 – Not a superhero flick. A gore-fest featuring depressing thought experiments and dilapidated superheroes. Great!
Slumdog Millionaire 7/10
Do The Right Thing 10/10
Serge Bozon’s La France 8/10 what a great flick
Deej Toolikain
Body of Lies — 5/10
Yeah, I thought this was pretty slick. It’s not the most intelligent thing you’ll ever see, but the writing is still pleasing at times. I liked the performances from DiCaprio and Crowe and there is at least one really good scene (marred only by the presence of two really dubious scenes). Trouble was, nothing resonates emotionally. By the end, it’s painfully difficult to care about anything that has taken place in the whole film. Nothing stays with you. You don’t care what the characters have done or where they’re going. Complete and utter apathy. I give it a 5, for a well-accomplished non-entity. Man, I should probably give it a 6, just for it’s refreshingly unapologetic attitude. Someone’s got to have called this stuff xenophobic (they’re not right though).
