The Housemaid (10/10)
Thanks to this page I’ve seen this incredible movie, this one goes right into my Favorite Movie list.
Oh, and that ending was PRECIOUS! Amazing, it’s one of the best things to do with this kind of film, like the punchline of a really good joke.

oh yea…RIVER KILLED EVERYONE!!!! it was awesome. my question is this: ITS BEEN FIVE YEARS? no sequal? what gives, Joss?!? great flick, great follow up to the series. it was sad when_____died, but something about it was expected, or at least heroic, y’know? but when they killed off ____? dude—that was sad…and totally out of nowhere! but it fit, somehow. made me and my roommates tear up a lil bit. i kind wonder if _____will ever be the same after that.
good movie, though.
@Troy— i know! i mean, he could’ve gone after so many better or more interesting, or more deserving (read-NOT accused of rape ;-) players like, i dunno…CHAUNCEY, maybe?
…or LeBron, or Kobe, or someone on the Knicks or, y’know…
Kobe who?
Ride Lonesome 8/10
Why is Boetticher so relatively unknown?
Great CinemaScope composition, solid script and acting.
The Thin Man 7/10. Entertaining comedy: Powell & Loy were great.
Kagiri Naki Hodo (1934) Another Great Naruse. A review:

irreversible 8/10
The Terminator: 7/10
Terminator 2: Judgment Day: 7.5/10
Rebecca: 8/10
Slacker: 8/10
The Housemaid/Hanyo: 7.5/10
Cache (2005) **** out of ****
Taxi Driver: 8/10
I could have seen Cache but I had too much work I had to do. At least I can watch good films in film history.
Ugetsu 4/5
The Punisher: War Zone : 2/10
Thief of Bagdad : 7/10 (bad quality, anyhow beautiful June Duprez)
Fanny and Alexander (again) : 9,5/10
Atlantic City 5/10
EXTREMELY dissapointed in this film. Burn Lancaster was fine, but most of the movie seemed forced. the story was good, for an idea, but didn’t seem to be excecuted very well. I didn’t sense much chemistry between Lancaster and Sarandon, and most of the time I felt the cast were all in the wrong movie. Alot seemed to be going on, but all the scenes happened too fast—it felt rushed so often that nothing really had time to simmer and develop. i liked what the film was about more than i liked what the film actually was. maybe i’ll end up taking a second look at it, but i didn’t care for it at all on this first viewing.
Eden Lake 7/10 Much better done than most films of this type.
Outlander 3/10
Limits of Control 5/10 Very disappointing. I’m a Jarmusch fan but this didn’t work very well for me.
Total Recall: 6.5/10
2001: A Space Odyssey: 10/10.
The Exterminating Angel 9.25/10
“The Assassination of Jesse James……” 6 out of 10. It should rate more, but for me, somehow it doesn’t. Everything is there: good acting, production design, cinematography….and yet it feels like it’s starting to become part of a new genre, with films like “There Will be Blood” (which I did like much more), that of the impeccably produced “new” Hollywood Western History Film (I think of ‘Dances With Wolves’ as starting this.)
It was good to look at, and had some interesting moments, but I wanted more. The 6 is for all the eye candy.
Two-Lane Blacktop: 6/10
Cool Hand Luke: 7/10
Le Samourai: 8.5/10 (god damn, what a cool movie!)
Goodfellas: 7.5/10
Casino: 8/10.
Yes, Casino is a better film than Goodfellas, in my opinion.
Re-watched:
X-Men (2000) 2.5 / 4.0
Taxi Driver (1976) 3.5 / 4.0
Daniel A
Sympathy for the Underdog. (9/10)
I thought this was Fukusaku’s best next to Battles Without Honor and Humanity. If you are into ninkyo films this one
will certainly not disappoint you.
