Casino IS better than Goodfellas. The soundrack alone is worth the price of admission.
The Vertical Ray Of The Sun (Tran An Hung, 2000) **** 4/4
The Squid and The Whale 8.5/10
Ballad of a Soldier 10/10
Wendy and Lucy: 7/10
Tsuma (1953) 7.
Kapurush (The Coward) by Satyajit Ray 7.5/10
Heart of Glass 9/10
I forgot to visit this thread during Cannes, sorry guys! Erg, now I can’t remember what I saw.
Here are a couple of the last ones:
Drag Me to Hell – 7/10
To Die Like a Man – 7/10
Adrift – 5/10
The Big Sleep (1946): 9/10
Punch-Drunk Love: 7.5/10
Battle in Seattle: 8/10
Martyrs 8/10 – Well crafted but completely brutalizing horror movie. I had to fast forward the last 20 minutes, because I couldn’t sit through the montages that I knew were coming, because they were too rough and exhausting. I imagine this is what “Salo” was like for the 70s viewer: mind-numbingly sadistic and unrelentingly brutal. De Sade would be proud. The film is both the slave-master dynamic and the Saw-torture porn genre taken to their logical and refined extremities.
T3: Rise of the Machines 3.5/10 – Awful. Boring. Looks nearly as dated as The Terminator.
Terminator Salvation 6/10 – Very entertaining. Resist thinking about the plot or continuity of the series, and the film is quite fun.
Dial M for Murder: 8/10
It’s amazing how deliberately manipulative of you Hitchcock can be. It was sheer joy watching this film play out—loved every performance, every camera move, every delicious plot twist.
Irma Vep - 8/10
Is it a better “movie about making movies” than Day for Night? Yup.
If… 9/10
Syndromes and a Century – 9/10
Giants and Toys 8/10
Midnight Cowboy: 8/10
Last film I’d seen before:
Kill Bill Vol. 2 – 9.5/10
Most recent film I had not seen before:
The Last Emperor – 7.5/10
Doubt: 8.0
Funny Games remake = D -
Werckmeister Harmonies 9.9/10
Reservoir Dogs: 9/10
Kill Bill, Vol. 1: 6/10
Kill Bill, Vol. 2: 5.5/10.
Body Rice (2006)
Definitely one of the most boring and shallow ‘movie’ I have seen in a long, long time.
terminator salvation
dont really know how to classify this one, it’s not a very good movie but im sure most people know what to expect when they go to see a summer movie, and based on that it works really well. Narratively it’s pretty terrible, but there’s more than enough action to keep you entertained and make this a worthwhile summer movie experience.
6/10
The International : 6/10
Hunger : 8.5
A Bittersweet Life (6.7/10)
Friends of Eddie Coyle (9/10)
Night at the Museum 2 (0/10) – one of the most heartless, godawful shams of a movie ever concocted
La Niña Santa (Lucrecia Martel) – 8.5/10
Michael Lown
Stranger than Paradise 8/10
