Hidden Behind the Screen

I also have the original Criterions for Seven Samurai Yojimbo and Sanjuro…The lack of supplements on the latter two disgusts me…But I just don’t got enough money to update…Always spending money on films I don’t already have.

Rudy

I have Straw Dogs and Sid and Nancy and Hard Boiled.

Hidden Behind the Screen

Wish I had the Criterion Straw Dogs…Had to go with the MGM version, the CC was just too damn expensive on Amazon.

SCUBADONC

I got my Straw Dogs from a Buy It Now auction on eBay for $30. It would’ve cost that much when it was in print and, at that price, totally worth it. The Criterion Collection could use more Peckinpah.

i’ve been wanting to sell off much of my laserdisc collection, but there’s just too much work involved… not to mention the decisions to made on what to keep… there’s a handful of Criterions, some OOP… they’re keepers for sure… to view-

Spartacula, I really don’t think you should sell your Criterion laserdiscs that’s GOLD

I wish I had Taxi Driver and or Bad Day At Black Rock on Laserdisc and for that matter Mickey One

Some of those laserdiscs have commentaries that are not present or lost

Hidden Behind the Screen

@Spartacula, damn! that’s alot!! If you only sold half of that you’d be rollin in dough! But, of coarse I’d keep ALOT of them too.

Franklinstein

I wish selling laserdiscs could make you the money they are “worth”

I have a large laserdisc collection including many criterion titles (many of which never saw dvd) and according to amazon they are worth a fortune, but being “worth” a fortune, and selling for a “fortune” are very different things

You can regularly get lots of LaserDiscs (Criterions included) for somewhere around 3-5 Discs for $10 on Ebay.

-Eclipse Series #6: Carlo Saura’s Flamenco Trilogy-

I remember this being listed as going OOP in one of the recent announcements, however it has not yet been listed as OOP on Criterion’s website . . . in case anyone is interested.

do we have a more up-to-date list?

Doinel

This oop business is confusing. Amazon has “Grand Illusion” available. Some of them come and go.

nick oberg

what is tricky about oop? what does criterion consider out of print. anybody have an updated list that criterion lists as out of print? i’m hoping some nerds have gone through criterion’s site and have compiled a list

Max Renn

Withnail and I and Mona Lisa silently slipped out of print according to the criterion website.

David Jameson

Looks like the following releases are now Out of Print at Criterion as well. Also adding Max’s most recent additions:

26 The Long Good Friday
37 Time Bandits
107 Mona Lisa
119 Withnail and I
193 Quai des Orfèvres

317 Tales of Hoffmann is listed as out of print on Criterion, but is still available as an Essential Art House edition

Note that number 69, Orpheus, from the The Orphic Trilogy box set, is coming back into print soon.

I hope that they’ll at least bring back some of these titles as Blu-Ray over the next year or two.

I had no idea so many have went out of print. I took about a year and a half break from buying DVDs.

Luckily, looking over the complete list of OOP titles, I’m only missing:

Pygmalion
Billy Liar

Kind of nice to see that I already own nearly all the ones that are out-of-print. I’d also like to get Cleo from 5 to 7 that isn’t part of the Agnes Varda set, just for the sake of the spine number.

For those more in the loop, how hard to find are both Billy Liar and Pygmalion, as I’m not sure how recently they went OOP and all.

I copped billy liar a few months back @ B&N (that one I’ve seen at some other stores since then)and they had Pygmalion at the the same store but I didn’t pick that up cause I haven’t gotten in2 Lean yet and the only thing I knew about the film was Lean edited it so……although I prob sould of 4 just the OOP status alone but It didn’t intrigue me

Are there any updates to this list, or have no titles gone OOP in the past year?

David

The definitive list for OOP information seems to be Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Criterion_Collection_DVD_and_Blu-ray_releases

I just noticed two days ago that CHASING AMY is out of print. Anybody know how long it’s been out of print?

Z. Bart

No offense, Jay, but hopefully Chasing Amy will fade fully into oblivion.

Jay Olie Espy

@Z. Bart—- None taken. But for what it’s worth, AMY is probably the best of Smith’s work. It went quickly downhill from there. I liked AMY when it came out, but I haven’t seen it in at least a decade. I wonder if I would still feel the same if I watched it today? Anyway, I’m surprised it didn’t go out of print sooner.

loofrin

i’m not sure why Chasing Amy is in the collection….. if Chasing Amy is in the collection, why do collectors debate Armaggedon and The Rock?

tomas.roges

Any Fassbinder fans that would like to purchase my copy of The BRD trilogy? I think the cheapest on amazon is $107.00 or something like that. I’m letting it go for msrp. Pm me if interested.

What’s the deal with Le Cercle Rouge, Army of Shadows, and Last Year at Marienbad, along with a few others? Was Studio Canal basically like “Screw it you can have these, since Lionsgate is basically just sitting on our library.” That’s what it seems like. Who knows? And they managed to release Leon Morin, Priest, which was a Studio Canal license.

Received notice this morning that the copy of Last Year at Marienbad from Amazon on 3/30 is finally going to ship.

Drunken Father Figure of Old

Army of Shadows finally shipped for me this morning too. I had been worried that they would end up being like “whoops, we don’t have that one after all!” I’m still waiting on Marienbad and Le Cercle Rouge to ship…

Matt Parks

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Price being asked for Marienbad used in the Amazon Marketplace is now up to $44.99.
