Any recommendation?

If by Asian you mean the whole continent including Japan then Takeshi Kitano’s ‘Kikujiro’ is a great little comedy.

For comedy-drama: “Tampopo” by Juzu Itami.

For off-the-wall surreal nuttiness: “The Happiness of the Katakuris” by Takashi Miike.

if you can locate them, also check out itami’s “taxing woman” and “taxing woman returns”.

Tampopo and Katakuris are great, exactly the two I would mention.

Ill also add Big Shot’s Funeral & Wheels on Meals.

Big Man Japan looks funny, but in an extremely niche way.

Gung Ho was funny in the 80s, but probably not now.

Welcome Back Mr McDonald – a Japanese ensemble comedy, Kino released the DVD in the US. Very entertaining – very much a tip of the hat to Hollywood 30s screwball comedies, with an opening scene that is something of a Hitchcock nod as well – a long travelling shot that introduces most of the major characters in stylish fashion. It’s not quite as good as its’ aspirations, but still – great fun.

Okay, you say you’ve seen Katakuris. Have you seen Ichi the Killer? Thats pretty funny also. There is also Samurai Fiction. Visitor Q is hilarious. And i’m sure you’ve seen Kung Fu Hustle.

I thought Shaolin Soccer was much funnier than Kung Fu Hustle. (Although I had to look past some of the unfunny, puerile humor in it.) And there’s a lot of hilarious anime.

I second Acerk’s suggestions and add Swing Girls to it.
And… I’m gonna throw this out there, but I laughed a lot with Shonen Merikensack.
I also laughed a lot with the McDull films. My Life as McDull, Prince de la Bun and yes… even Alumni.

Eat Drink Man Woman (饮食男女) — a Taiwanese film directed by Ang Lee and starring Sihung Lung, Yu-wen Wang, Chien-lien Wu, Kuei-mei Yang.

Many cast members starred in Ang Lee’s previous film, The Wedding Banquet. The latter film (an uproarious comedy in its first half) was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe award for Best Foreign Language Film.

The Wayward Cloud (Tsai Ming-Liang)

also, Jackie Chan(the kung-fu Charlie Chaplin) films from late 1970’s

both of these are physical comedies in radically different senses of the word

Pretty much anything by Juzo Itami :

Tampopo
A Taxing Woman
The Funeral

I thought Tetsuo, the Iron Man funny too, in a Japanese B-movie sort of way.

sad too.
