Making Shorts

I am seriously considering writing and directing my first short. I have pretty minimal experience with the actual creation of films, but I do understand much of the way films are created. Also, I don’t really care if it’s very difficult because there is no way to make films without making a film.

I guess I wanted to know if anyone out there has created any shorts, or features, and what sort of things I should keep in mind. Any thoughts really.

Hello. I shall reply.

Here it is. You should carefully plan equipment handling. That’s really the utmost thing. Make sure you have a perfect viewfinder. But really. Equipment first.

Unless u wanna shoot like I do with a point+shoot. Then you can carry that in your pocket and pull it out anytime.

write your scenario to be as low budget and simple as possible. if possible, and for example, write a script that all takes place in one location at one time.

brevity is an art form.

Write what you know. Set your story in a location you have. Use only what you have.

I would suggest that you do a two-page scene. A simple conversation. Just shoot that. I have shot some sorts, from miniDv to 35mm. Each one is an experience that I have learned so much from. It doesn’t matter how expensive the project is. It’s just a matter of getting out and trying something
