great idea, Scorsese has been in a fiction film rut for a while maybe this will help him.
LVT fan girl swoon
Very exciting! I love LVT, but thought The Five Obstructions was decent at best. It probably didn’t help that the short film that was being remade wasn’t all that good in the first place… And I really didn’t like how they decided to do an animated one even though they both hated animation (those strange people…). A collaboration between LVT and Scorsese is almost guaranteed to be fascinating though, even if Scorsese is long, long past his peak.
Stop the Remake Mania, enough with remakes!!!!
Plus, Jorgen Leth nailed the Von Trier project with his appearance based on his original Perfect Man semi-docu idea (which was perfect by the way without an “experimentation” by Von Trier, thank you very much), what will Scorsese be doing now, a meta-Five Obstructions being Leth opposite Von Trier?
Damn you Scorsese, aren’t you tired of remaking a better film than yours for a third time around?
(Cape Fear, Infernal Affairs hint hint)
But seriously, do we really need more remakes? Let Me In, Dogtooth, The Housemaid, Harakiri is almost there and now The Five Obstructions? For real????
the original film was awesome. hope this one isn’t too dumbed down.
I wish Scorsese would stop acting his age.
fantastic news. Five Obstructions is endlessly re-make-able or at least the concept is, that is applying restrictions to the creative process and seeing what happens. can’t wait
Maybe Marty will be prevented from using the Rolling Stones.
When I found out this is actually happening my heart sank.
I’ll wait to hear what the obstructions are before I judge the project. To be honest though, it sounds quite exciting. Assuming it ends up being an small entry into Scorsese’s filmography rather than another feature film, the premise really excites me.
Let’s see what he can do!
this sequence, and particularly this image, gets me everytime:

Yeah, right, whatever.
Oh the possibilities! There will always be naysayers and playa haters to everything but honestly, what cinephile can’t get excited about LVT vs Scorsese? At least it’s not Pirates of the Carribean 7 3D.
(yet)
This particular cinephile has found little in Scorsese’s work to get excited about in the past couple of decades. Maybe von Trier can get Scorsese out of his rut. Maybe. We’ll see, of course.
what cinephile can’t get excited about LVT vs Scorsese?
What was wrong with the LVT vs Leth meeting?
(sorry, I forgot, Leth doesn’t have any De Niros in his roster…)
are they going to remake the remakes like psycho got ‘remade’? a shot for shot replacing leth with scorsese, and the limits imposed stop becoming the limits that they originally were, as the limits of the remake of those original limits limiting the first remakes of the original film would be elsewhere….i like that a lot…i also like leth a lot too.
I’m more pleased that Silence is reportedly next.
IT SHOULD BE OBVIOUS TO EVERYONE THAT IT IS NOT A “REMAKE”; IT IS A SEQUEL.
It Cannot Factually Be Called a “Remake” Because It’s a Different Director,
Therefore a Different Film Challenged with New Obstructions.
Come on, Humans. Use your critical thinking unit.
As a Fact Robot, who especially enjoys serials & catalogs,
I find the idea of Lars von Trier continuing a ‘Five Obstructions’ series rather promising.
It is a compelling concept & malleable enough, so as to challenge any director.
^ EXACTLY. What the robot said. Perhaps better to be called an ‘exercise’.
This should CHALLENGE Scorsese. Either way, LVT will win.
Yes, a sequel to one of the most interesting (if not somewhat flawed) docs about filmmaking.
I hope Von Trier does more after this too :)
Isn’t The Five Obstructions a remake of The Perfect Man..?
4peace
News here.
I can’t even wrap my mind around it I’m so excited. Original was top 5 documentary EVER.
Thoughts? LVT more talented?…will put Scorsese in a triangle choke?
Will Scorsese reverse out of artistic hibernation and meet the challenge? Possibly.
Will they use Taxi Driver to do it? If not what?
