I’m intrigued since my take on ME AND YOU…. is the same as Peter Rinaldi’s. If this is a film for people who hated that one, maybe I’ll give it a chance. Comparing her to Duras seems to be the most ridiculous comparison of the year.
That’s supposed to say ‘saw’ not ‘se’. I never seen one of her films before watching The Future just the other day. Shortly after I went on a binge and watched Me and you and several of her shorts. I like what I had seen but I ultimately prefer The Future. Depending on the persons age who’s watching it, it will more than likely take a differen affect on the person. It holds a definite spot in my top 10 of the year.
i don’t know… i’m of the opinion that if you didn’t like me and you, etc. than you won’t like the future… for pretty much the same reasons.
I saw The Future first so I wouldn’t know how that would work for most people. I liked both for different reasons. They’re two completely different films. I wonder if people dislike one or the other because of her (Miranda July) presence in both films. I personally like her and the attention she pays to telling a pretty conventional story in an unconventional manner.
“I don’t know; this sort of muted reaction usually means I’ll end of forgetting about this film. While definitely original and has a unique voice, I don’t find July particularly exciting as a filmmaker.”
Well, four months after that comment, I can confirm I’ve pretty much forgotten about this film.
Four months prior to your most recent comment you didn’t have anything remotely interesting to say. And I see four months later you still don’t. So good for you.

i went and saw THE FUTURE but apparently instead of showing the movie they just had someone shit directly into a running projector for 90 minutes and then afterwards i asked the theatre manager “why didn’t you show the movie” and she was like “we did”
You too, ehh? I think you need to get that checked out because I think you’ve caught what santino’s got, only worse.
@curtis francis You are getting confused with the movie “The Future of Shit”. I was at that screening too. It stunk. {whistles the Tonight Show theme} I’m here all week, everybody!!!!!
The Duras comparison is strange, but I am just happy that Brody didn’t call any of Swanberg’s films “the movie of the year”. Speaking of dumping in a projector.
Easily the worst film I’ve seen in 2011. The Future is just god-awful. The comparison to Marguerite Duras is borderline retarded.
“I’ve seen the future, brother: it is murder.”
I’m w/ Tommy. loved The Future. Squint to look past the surface-level hipster diction and vernacular. underneath is the pulse of time and death and the aching feeling of waiting for your life to truly begin when X happens. also no matter your thoughts on july as personality or whatever, you can’t deny that this is a step forward cinematically from her prior effort in terms of narrative sophistication and framing and cutting.

Se The Future just the other night. For me, one of the best films of 2011.
