Oh man, when I went to see Away From Her I totally fell asleep. Then I tried to act like I didn’t but Lord, that thing was boooooooring! And it started out so good too, but I just didn’t care anymore. I feel so bad. :(
I’ve never ever fallen asleep in the cinema or even watching a film at home. A couple of times I have felt myself getting tired watching a film at home at 2 in the morning, at which point I either sit up and force myself to open my eyes or I turn the film off and watch the rest the next day. But I’ve never actually fallen asleep while the film was still running.
I fell asleep during Dan in Real life. I only watched it for the soundtrack.
Waseem – You couldn’t stay awake for La Binoche?? I know, film sucked but Binoche is always easy to watch :)

I took a class this summer called Hollywood Genre film at 9:30 in the morning every (week)day, which was followed immediately by another film class (Forbidden Hollywood Pre-code Cinema) and while almost all of the films watched in both classes were awesome, I found myself a few times dozing off in the 9:30 class, but luckily the films I remember falling asleep during,The Ox-Bow incident and maybe one other, I have since had other opportunities to see on the big screens. However the film which I have tried to watch at home and during that 9:30 class which I have never successfully made it through (and I’m not sure how I feel about it) is the Disney version of Alice in Wonderland… never can stay awake….
Midnight screenings kill me. I recently went to see a 35mm archival print of Michael Mann’s The Keep at the New Beverly.
It was a midnight show and I had just had a full day of work. Needless to say, keeping my eyes open was a struggle.
I’ve never fallen asleep in a theater, but I do at home sometimes. Recently I fell asleep during Aliens Vs. Predator 2, and now I thank god everyday that I did.
In the theater, I haven’t really fallen asleep, except the time when I was about five and I was at a drive in on a pretty cold night. Other than that, though, at home, I haven’t finished Spider-Man since 2003, I think, simply because I cannot stay awake during it. I can’t stay awake during P.S. I Love You (although we always put that one on really late). Usually, if it’s a criterion, I’ll pause it, like with Berlin Alexanderplatz, and then wake up later. Sometiems I am just too tired to finish what I began, but, lately, I’ve been pretty good about it.

Fell asleep during The Fifth Element. Woke up to some blue broad on a stage warbling what apparently passes for a “song” in THE FUTURE!
Russian Ark almost got me…
The only time I’ve ever fallen asleep in the theater was during “The Kite Runner.” Probably going to hell for that one.
The only time I’ve fallen asleep at a movie theater was during Bourne Ultimatum (that is the last one, right?). I didn’t think it was bad or boring or anything, but the seats there were so comfortable and I was in the dark and…
The only time I’ve fallen asleep in a theater was during The Passion of the Christ. Haha.
haha definitely yes! But not because the movie was boring, but because I was tired and sleepy :)
Quantum of Solace
Knocked Up (the first time)
Zodiac ( the first time, but ultimately ended up in my favorites list)
Dr.Seuss
Transfomers, proving that there is a god of cinema.
To my eternal shame – Return of the Jedi: Special Edition (In my defense I had seen it a couple days before in the theater and the night before this showing I had done an all-nighter. I know, it’s not a good excuse)
I used to work nights. When I got off shift I’d catch the first film showing at the dollar theater. I saw a lot of garbage that way. I remember Jim Carrey’s The Mask, Beverly Hills Ninja, and Dusk Before Dawn knocking me out. At home I’ve only made it through M. Hulot’s Holiday once without sleeping. It’s a very relaxing film that just does me in.
yes… with solaris (the sodebergh version); it was a borefest that lead me to my first and only time sleeping at the movie theater; i woke up occasionaly and i just wanted to get out, but just for respect to the movie experience i stayed.
i fall asleppp at
the manchurian candidate remake, but it wasnt that bad to fall asleep, not a very good film in my opition.
i slept through the through the first two installments of the lord of the rings. i was lights out as soon as the lights went out.
I went the trifecta.
Each and every Lord of the Rings installments caught me napping.
BREAKER MORANT, shown through a projector in one of Saddam’s palaces in Baghdad, packed with Yanks and Australian troops last August. I was gone for almost ten minutes. But I’ve seen the film many times, it was a scorching 115 degrees and I haven’t slept in three days, no excuse.
LORD OF THE RINGS – I may get jumped for this… but yeah, all 3 LORD OF THE RINGS caught me napping at some point – enjoyed them afterwards though, at home with a beer!
Davinci Code.
never
I’ll tell on others—one time I went with 3 other people to see Maddin’s Cowards Bend the Knee (one of the 3 is a big fan, too). Halfway through I looked over and all 3 were asleep!
I dozed a bit in Herzog’s recent Encounters at the End of the World, though I actually quite liked it…well the parts that I saw anyway.
“pirates of the carribbean” and i only saw it because my girlfriend at the time wanted to see it., but there is nothing to be ashamed of from falling asleep during a movie. you are either tired or the movie is boring. it is as simple as that!
I have, as I imagine most of us have, nodded off at the theater before. My confession though would be that I fell asleep 2 or 3 times trying to finish Ghandi on dvd. I loved the movie from the beginning but I was working a lot then and it’s just so slow and peaceful in spots that I couldn’t get through it. It’s one of my favorite films but I won’t try to rewatch it on a short night’s rest.
Never in theatres but I tend to stay away from movies I think will be bad. At home every once in a while when it is really late, but I always finish it right when I wake up no matter what.
Only once. Half way through the first part of Barry Lyndon. My wife and I left quickly at half-time.

When I was in England I used to have some beers before the films, and used to go just to get out of my room therefore I slept through the entire Underworld movie. Didn’t miss much except there was alot of gun shots I remember, ech….
