Most painful scene ever? (spoilers)

Did anyone else find the fire extinguisher scene to be utterly tragic to watch? Not so much because of the gore, but because of the detail given to the depiction of the pain he was experiencing? (Kinda redundant, I know….) As his jaw broke, his face was destroyed, you could see and vicariously feel every ounce of his pain…the idea that we’re all just fragile animals, and one hard swat, and we’re on the floor immobilized, gasping for breath and solace like a fish out of water…..absolutely haunting.

And then the realization later in the film just makes it worse. The rape was awful, but the extinguisher scene really stuck with me, personally. I feel a film is successful if it shows me a part of myself, and I definitely had to reflect on this one for a long time after.

Then again, I’m sure others thought it wasn’t all that bad.

Edit: Finding it hard to really say what I’m trying here without saying “The gore wasn’t that bad, but THE GORE WAS THAT BAD.” Hope I got it across okay. If not, just let this thread die, lol.

Well, I was being specific. Didn’t want to hijack that thread to talk about Irreversible…

My bad. :/

No worries. That would have been good there (though there are also many threads on Irreversible too. Also.
