Most rewatchable Criterion film?

Just curious about which film in everyone’s collection they consider to have the highest re-watch value. The one I’ve watched the most is My Man Godrey, mainly because I enjoy it so much, but I’ve also watched The Seventh Seal several times.

Royal Tenenbaums. That film DEFINES rewatchable to me. Only it got stolen. I’m buying it back soon. When I get my hands back on that film!!! I"m gonna watch it till my eyes fall out! And then I’m gonna listen to it!

Also Chungking Express, Le Samourai (one I actually didn’t expect) and of course the OOP masterpiece (which I have the extreme honor to own) The Killer.

A lot of great criterion films, but I gotta say, Royal Tenenbaums is one of my favourites too.

Yeah, probably a tie between Royal Tennenbaums and Dazed and Confused. Howard’s End would be next in line. Years ago I would have said Fear and loathing in Las Vegas, but I’m not as big a fan of it anymore

Personally, I find the more mainstream films to be rewatchable. Life of Brian, Spinal Tap, Silence of the Lambs, Rushmore, Videodrome. I’ll probably watch those at least once a year. Whereas with arthouse/foreign/classic /experimental films, I’ll generally watch them once, and then not again for a long time, if at all. A big part of this is that the more “mainstream” films require less thought on my part, so if I am in the mood to see something familiar, it’s usually because I’m feeling kind of lazy, so I’ll go with something like Dazed and Confused over L’Avventura or a Godard film.

I can barely sit through dazed and confused once, much less twice

Throne of Blood (only because that the film in the Collection I probably have watched the most times.)

HAL 9000

I like 8 1/2 a lot, but I really have no idea which one I watch the most. Alphaville, Cries and Whispers, L’avventura or L’eclisse. Maybe Band of Outsiders. However, like 8 1/2 which happens to be one of my favorite films, ( even though I would say the best Fellini film is La Dolce Vita ), I go along with Brad S. on Throne of Blood. That’s my favorite Kurosawa film and I haven’t really watched my Criterion version of it yet, but before that, I used to watch it on video many times.

That would be Royal Tenenbaums for me. Easily.

Definitely “Dazed and Confused”… I’ve seen it a few hundred times, and plan on watching it a few hundred more.

Also, all Wes Anderson films are extremely re-watchable… as are many Kurosawa’s (for me, mainly “Yojimbo”) and Godard’s “Pierrot le fou” of course.

Then there’s “Kicking and Screaming”… and so many more.

“Dazed and Confused” definitely gets the top prize, though.

the seven samurai or the third man. tough call and great topic.

I was just thinking that it’s kind of funny that my favorite Criterion releases that I own aren’t really my most re-watchable. I LOVE Nights of Cabiria, but I’ve only watched it once or twice. Same with something like Brazil or Vampyr.
