Another list thread? Are we ever going to discuss film again?
Empire strikes back
the sixth sence
these are probably the most well known twists in movies
I guess you could consider No Country for Old Men to have an unexpected ending.
Oldboy. If you didn’t see it coming, The Usual Suspects.
It wasn’t a twist but certain things about Requiem for a Dream caught me off gaurd.
The Squid and the Whale.
Synecdoche, New York.
Adaptation.
The Dark Knight.
Reservoir Dogs.
Let The Right One In.
Pan’s Labyrinth.
Children of Men.
Stalker.
Those are just some that aren’t big twist endings (some of them), but they had something that I didn’t fully expect when the movie started, or that I didn’t expect would be the ending. I really didn’t have any problem with any of them, though.
Savvy
Titanic – I was really hoping that boat wasn’t going to sink.
“Sunshine” delivered the biggest shock to me. And yes, “Saw” as well. And yes, I actually like the first 2 “Saw” movies. Not so much #3 and #4 (haven’t seen #5).
I don’t mind the first two Saw movies either. The third was ridiculous and neverending. I stopped there.
I didn’t see The Midnight Meat Train‘s ending coming AT ALL. I never read Clive Barker’s short story.
Speaking of Titanic, the last known Titanic survivor just died. There’s no one left ) :
Corbucci’s The Great Silence ended a bit surprisingly since it didn’t follow the formula of how traditional westerns end. I was also a bit surprised by how There Will Be Blood wrapped up – I’m not the biggest fan of that film but I was happy to see my expectations turned at the end.
Haha Vincent. My brother loves that film, especially BECAUSE it wrapped up exactly how he wanted it to. Man, could he not stand that specific character.
Savvy
Vincent, good call on the Great Silence. Trintignant and Kinski and Corbucci there’s a team-up I would have like to have seen again.
For those who are fans of Nicole Kidman, the film she was in called The Others by Alejandro Amenábar had a nice twist ending – no spoilers attached. See if you can see it coming, if you haven’t seen the film.
Did not see that coming at all in The Others.
Lone Star (brother/sister twist)
The Others got me too.
Oliver Twist. It’s got Twist all the way through.
Danail Dimitrov
How many movies with unexpected endings can you name?
