Werckmeister Harmonies – Beautiful and haunting, I’ve seen this many times but I’m not even sure what it’s about. Also The Big Sleep, which everytime I try to watch again and again, I always get lost in the second half. I got friends who claimed to have ‘got it’ explained it to me, but failed miserably.
L’Intrus by Claire Denis
Luis Bunuel movies, french 70s satire is somewhat lost on me
I second L’Intrus, that film seems almost impossible to fully comprehend, that’s why I love it.
i loved Inland Empire & Mullhulond Dr. by David Lynch, and 3 Women is damn-near my favorite Altman movie, but i’ll be damned if i can honestly say i “get” any of them.
I like the idea of this topic so I’m giving it a bump. After only one viewing of Sans Soleil months ago, I can safely agree with that pick. It’s grown in my mind since that initial viewing.
Totally confused about Sans Soleil and I don’t care for it.
However, count me in with L’intrus. Love that film; don’t really fully understand it, though.
The Zapruder film.
Mulholland Dr, Lost Highway, Blue Velvet (towards the end), and Inland Empire. I guess they aren’t meant to be understood, so I take them as straight up experiences.
For 11 years now, Mulholland Dr. has, at once, puzzled, haunted and delighted.
I don’t think so. I like Werckmeister Harmonies or Lost Highway but because i know what the creators want to express.
Andrei Tarkovsky’s “Zerkalo (The Mirror)”

Sans Soleil, a movie that redefines the concept of the road film and visual essay. Chris Marker really blows your mind and makes you reconsider the idea of the narrative. I know I will never honestly understand this movie but I love it and will never stop trying to figure it out. Also Persona is one of my favorite films of all time and I still don’t think I can honestly say I completely understand it. But its Bergman so its beautiful and enchanting, the same thing goes for Nostalgia its Tarkovsky you have to be astounded by his living camera and his elemental style of shooting, anything else you take away from the film is a bonus.
