MUBI: VOTE

All due respect to your intentions, which I understand, but this is a huge waste of time.

156 out of 300,000.

Whether those numbers mean anything or not, those are the numbers you’re up against.

Yeah, but, Josh, the “300,000” is bullshit that they use to sell themselves. They’ve counted every single person who ever registered here. You register once, never come back, and you’re one of their coveted 300,000. It’s complete nonsense.

They even count this character among their 300,000 (apparently number 258,836):

@ Ryan,

I understand what you’re saying as well. But I do think that the timing of the name change was rather suspect. I am really not that confident that this site would have won the Webby if the name changed had been announced before the Webby voting.

Just saying.

EDIT: PS I’m saying it’s reasonable to assume that the 156 votes here probably reflect the sentiments of the people who had voted for The Auteurs for the Webby award.

I think at last 1000 of 300000 are active in the forum and result shows that not anything else

Ari—I know that. And I know those are the numbers they use to justify their strategy. I’m arguing alongside you, not against you.

They’re going to look at 156 and say, “Yeah, but 300,000.”

This is why we had the dotcom bubble burst a few years back. It seems all you have to have is a large user base, doesn’t matter how active users are, to attract advertising and commercial tie-ins. Look at Facebook, it is now valued in the billions of dollars. And, what is it really? Nothing more than data material for marketing. Nothing is private anymore.

As for MUBI, the deal is done. There is no going back on it. But, This shouldn’t stop us from voicing our views on the subject. Anyone who thinks it will be the same place, with all these commercial tie-ins efe is pursuing, is nuts.

@Josh R. Of course they won’t change anything because of this vote. I agree with you on this – we should deal with the new name and move on.

I created this thread just so people could voice their opinions objectively (whatever that opinion might be).

^ Dzimas, you are wrong. If anything we have a new surge of content coming that will establish Mubi as a platform for delivery way past everyone’s expectations. Mubi, so this is clear, is the VOD engine, the code, the machinery, and the accompanying social network mechanism. The Auteurs is now for content specific to Auteur cinema.

Since I missed this when it mattered. theauteurs.com (158) .

I literally left the site for the last 2 months in protest. and still feel ill over the change. I hear the differences between what is MUBI and what is The Auteurs, but until the top of this page says The Auteurs I won’t be a happy camper.

First time to site. Mubi sounds like a dumb way of spelling “movie.” Reminds me of SciFi channels retarded change to SyFy—but it at least kind of works. Mubi is just detestable; I agree with everyone else. theauteurs is better; why did you guys even change it in the first place?

by the way, i made this account just to post that i think theauteurs is much more clever name than mubi despite the fact i’ll most likely never come back to this site because i’m so disgusted with the name “mubi.”

Honestly I never called this site Mubi I always call it the auteurs. So I haven’t even gotten to the acceptance stage.

I am clearly not in the acceptance stage. As I am still raging and ranting. I come here 90 percent less as a direct result of the name change. I am no longer proud to have this as my favorite site. I really wish they’d just have a setting in your account settings that would change the name and url at the top.
