Usted lo cree, compadre?
@RLS: Well said (re: your shaggy dog post) and I like that idea. mubile.com: Nubile movies for the cinephile inside you.
Hmmm…that sounds really dirty. And as such, I like it even more.
Still trying to process the name change of one of my TOP 3 favourite sites on the entire web. Although my gut reaction is indeed a negative one (add me to the list) and that’s not because I hate change, but because “theauteurs” was an absolutely perfect term to symbolize everything that we all love about this much-needed exclusive online film community. Not so much…(pointing in the direction of little “mubi” over there)
I shall grab a cup of tea and ponder over this a bit more…
I first joined theauteurs.com 8 months ago and have loved every minute I spend on this site.
I made some good friends here and was happy to talk to users who loved Fassbinder, John Cassavetes and yes… even Herschell Gordon Lewis and Richard Kern as much as I do.
I have discovered and learned about so many films and directors here…the running time of all the films in my “Wants to Watch List” combined must be longer than the life span of your average smoker (so I better get to it fast)
This truly is a special site, and I don’t see how a new name could take away that special something.
I wish Mubi all the best!
As long as my personal data is being used to sell me more chape-free underoos, I’m down. And as long as Criterion sends me complimentary 3-D glasses for their IMAX Brackhage streaming premiere
Ah, whatever. The name changed. Still the same place. Moving on…
fuck Mubi
I do not like the new name at all. I wish you could change it back…
MUBI backwards is I-BUM
http://www.kith-kin.co.uk/presents/index.php/london-09/i-bum/
Maybe the fine people of
MUBI Regenerative Consulting Inc. Mycelium Urban Biodiversity Interface
will take issue with the name and force them to change it back.
Damn it, this site is going to remain TheAuteurs.com to me.
Until the name changes, I’m referring to the new name as NEWBIE.
Because NEWBIE and MUBI have the same relevance to cinema.
Efe, all that education couldn’t buy you a clue about how to not mess with something that’s working just fine.
……what a joke…..
This name is awfully silly, and seems like a desperate attempt at being more “web 2.0”, but the scariest part is that there are even more “exciting things coming soon…”.

Duck and cover, the auteurs members. This might just all blow over…

Oops…I guess it didn’t. Watch for the fallout, fellow auteurs!
Occasionally, I will type auteurs.com and get to the L’Express literary section.
This made me laugh.
Yeah, I think the name change is pretty pointless. Rhymes with “doobie” though, so maybe there’s a subliminal subtext in there somewhere … or is that just wishful thinking on my part?
The Cavs’ season ends, and now this. Oh well…
Was this thread really here 9 days ago?? We had prior warning?! Dammit! I honestly thought my compy had caught a virus when I was redirected to…this…Mubi…lolwut?
^ We didn’t have prior warning. They just said Mubi was coming, but we didn’t know what Mubi was. As a matter of fact, we still don’t know what Mubi is.
Mubi is how we pronounce movie in our insignificant country. thanks to mubi.com, now our people can enter the site..brilliant name to us insignificant people that the majority of our people can’t speak&read/write in English. Thank you. Mubi.com. mubi dup paapp-paaap..
Now we are not bothered to buy dictionaries anymore to find out what auteurs is, we can stay stupid&fat.
Let’s hear it for marketing gurus! Hooray!
I guess the idea came from
Flixster Sounds like ‘flicks’, a slang term for films, just like Mubi sounds like Movie.
Bebo Sounds cute, like what a baby would say, just like Mubi.
So maybe we can look forward to sparkly profiles, polls on ‘who is hotter: Taylor Lautner or Robert Pattison’ and ‘which Miley hairstyle is prettiest?’ and comments on every film like ‘omg this was sooooo boringggg’. Go to flixster, you’ll see what I mean.
To add Jon Kennard: I’ve been a user of flixster, and hell yeah, there’s sparkly profiles with zero rating, and boobified profile pics. and you missed something, there’s people who actually write like this:
helOuu..cud U please ad me. cud U?cud U pleasee..
from my flixster main page

@jon Kennard: Lool..it seems that MUBI is going that way..
A site does not change it’s name unless forced to do so. Also, I have a hard time believing that the same person who chose The Auteurs chose friggin MUBI…new management?
I’m more curious to know why the monthly free movies have stopped. I used to look forward to that. The free movies available now have not change in several months. Oh wait, after using the word “free” twice in a row I think I figured it out; yes, new management. :)
If there are no free movies, what is the point? That is what got me back to The Auteurs in the first place, because I was sick of all the bickering for awhile. It seems that I have met even more good people and it’s fun to make lists. But if they remove the free movies, forget it. I can go to YouTube. Mubi is the most idiotic name ever. Disgusting! I would never have joined a site called Mubi and I would never recommend it to anyone.
For me, this is the perfect example of the self-destruction of a well-introduced brand: it’s as if “Apple” would change its name to “The Fruit Company”…
The name “The Auteurs” (and the fact that not everybody knew what the term meant) was what attracted me to this website initially – now I’m seriously considering not using it anymore…
I couldn’t be more disappointed.
We should consider opening up the first appropriately Mubi poll: CAN LINDSAY LOHAN GET HERSELF OFF DRUGS AND MAKE A SUCCESSFUL COMEBACK?

Nadie se va a salir. Los del imdb van a entrar y de ahi todo se ira al carajo.
