“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
I feel retarded.
Is this a joke?
It really is the ugliest name they could have found.
Totally agree with T.J. Royal.
If I’m going to a website that’s in a foreign language, I’ll at least make damn sure I know how to spell it before going there. If you want to change it to some kind of IMDb acronym bullshit, fine, but MUBI? Really? Is this something that’s a funny joke?
One simple question arises: Why? Oh why?

Dumbest decision in the history of this site
Do any1 knoe if MUBI have Kin or Bing capabilly / Droid ready? Thnx
The Auteurs is the name. The word Mubi on the homepage doesn’t change that
Reminds me of the “Wii” fiasco. What has the leetspeak age done to us?
Mubi is actually not a bad word (as Nohea and others stated, it HAS a meaning) but my beef here is that it’s totally unrelated to the Art of Cinema.
unless there is a hidden meaning somewhere?
I am new around here. I don’t remember how i came across to this website but i shall admit that the first thing that had enticed me was the name “The Auteurs”. It was sending out a sophisticated and classy first impression which is the target i guess.
I am sure there is substantial reasoning behind this change. I am not a marketing or advertising expert but as a simple user and a cinema fan, i would say that The Auteurs was really hitting the spot
“Mr. would you please help my pony?”
MUBI what!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
that typeface doesn’t work with the 7 dots anymore.
please don’t change the look of this website, the name, okay, the look, i’ll be mad…
“The Auteurs” was a very classy name for a classy website. “Mubi” sounds like one of the first words a newborn baby says.
and the sign-in is dark green/light green. ahhh.
I’m sure the team has done a lot of research on this. If it can help bring more people to the site and educate them on world class cinema, then I’m all for it. A name is just a name, right? That didn’t stop Nimrod Antal from making movies
I hope Efe gets the message and changes it back. This is disgraceful.
Anyone who would rather sign up to a site called Mubi over The Auteurs probably doesn’t have much interest in world cinema to begin with, so it really makes me wonder what direction they’re trying to take this site and what sort of demographic they’re trying to attract.
Mubi…..ugh…..just typing it makes me feel like a teen-aged hyper-texter.
wait so is it suppose to be like a retarded kid saying “movie” = “mubi” ??
Please change it back. I refuse to have “MUBI” in my bookmark bar. To me, it’s still The Auteurs. (I’m fourteen and I can spell it, not that challenging really…)
This is really stupid. The Auteurs was great. This is just…stupid.
pronounced “moo-bee” or “moo-bye” the latter sounds like Dubai, which sounds worldly I guess…
I can only share the sentiments above. In case there were legal issues involved the name change would be understandable, but to use a childish term to make it easier for illiterates to sign up is ridiculous. As long as there are no reasonable explanations I will continue to call this site The Auteurs.
I’m divided about this change. On one hand I can see some advantages from having a supershort, easy to remember domain name, but on the other hand I think it could end up changing the character of the site and attracting a different kind of crowd. I hope that this doesn’t happen.
Step back from the Mubi….hands where I can see them!!!
well, even if Nimrod Antal is a talentless shithole, at least he’s got a better name than Michael Bay.
personally, the word is fine but it just doesn’t parallel well with cinema as a form of art. still, if anyone from the admins can provide information as to what the connection of mubi with cinema is, i’d appreciate the gesture.
i love the words savoir vivre or filosofia but they are as relative to cinema as mubi is a name for a cinema site: completely pointless.
T.J. Royal
Life now has that much less meaning to it.
LoL
