I liked the prequel, SUNSET BLVD.
It was originally supposed to be a television series, so I’d imagine Lynch has a plethora of ideas and stories he hasn’t yet used.
Regardless of the fact that the film was effectively a pilot for a television series, I’d hate to see Mulholland Drive ruined for all of its fans with a potentially mediocre sequel. I’m not a big fan the film myself, but I know many of you are. Would a sequel be worth the risk of tainting what you feel about the film as it is?
It would be better if he takes those ideas in his head and creates something different while referencing the original.
A sequel, no matter how bad couldn’t possibly ruin Mulholland Drive. No bad sequel has ever wrecked the film it followed. I really hope that Lynch has one more feature in him. I’d hate to see his last film be Inland Empire. That would be an awful cinematic swan song.
@ Strawdawg
Lynch is only 64 years old. He’s got dozens of films left in him. Right now he’s in pre-production on an animated film entitled “Snootworld.”
Inland Empire is part of the Mulholland Drive universe (as witnesses in the credits background), maybe a sequel would more strongly tie the two together, maybe even bring Twin Peaks into it, I’d love to see if Cooper is still saying “How’s Annie?”
I like his book about meditation much more than any of the films tho some of the films are very good.
No no no no no no no no no!
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!!!
dp
won’t happen
This makes no sense… but I trust Lynch with whatever he does.
Mulholland Drive is a stand alone piece of art a sequel or a prequel can’t ruin it. I’m curious.
“This makes no sense…”
We’re talking about Lynch here, sense is just a matter of consideration and inebriation.
as much as I love both Inland and Mullholland I want Lynch to move away from L.A. and choose a completely different setting for a completely different project
If this does happen, I have the image in my head that it’s going to be a direct to DVD release directed by some no name director.
If Lynch directs it though I really don’t care what it is, I’d be glad.
“Inland Empire is part of the Mulholland Drive universe (as witnesses in the credits background), maybe a sequel would more strongly tie the two together, maybe even bring Twin Peaks into it, I’d love to see if Cooper is still saying ‘How’s Annie?’”
oh my god. that would be the greatest thing.
HOW’S ANNIE? HOW’S ANNIE!?
Nathan W:
Considering that Lynch has only made around 10 feature length films in 40 years and that he’s 64 tells me he hasn’t got much time left at this rate. I know he’s a renaissance man, but all those other projects he works on, just seem to take time away from what I think he’s best at doing.
Yeah, in terms of sequel, that term is used VERY loosely with Lynch. In fact Mulholland Dr. itself is basically a Twin Peaks sequel in his original conception. And like Lost Highway that takes place (officially) in the same universe at TP, a sequel would mean nothing more to me that another film is being made by Lynch, (and possibly that Laura Harring is involved)
Ya know, maybe there already is the Los Angeles Trilogy with Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire.
Oh my goodness, oh my goodness
David Lynch has already lost his inspiration, so why not? The sequel can’t be worse than S. Darko, so why not?

Thoughts?
I love the rumors, to a degree, but they rarely become fact.
