Need help identifying the location and the lens choice

Hello there.

Could any of you help me identify the location in this shot? How’s this location called and what’s that building (church?) at the top of the hill?
Sorry for the silly question but I’m not that familiar with the Parisian landmarks.

Another question, what lens do you think was used to film this shot? Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Most of the film is shot using wide angle lens, though I have doubts about this shot since it seems rather ‘flattened’ and the background appears closer than it presumably is.

I appreciate your input. Thanks!

It was shot around Montmartre. The church is called Basilique du Sacre-Coeur.

My guess is that either that shot was done on a wide-angle lens (thus creating the sense of depth between planes), or it the cathedral was composited into the background. Do not take either of these guesses as fact.

It also seems that a camera angle is slightly canted or is it because of the lens that a church seems ‘canted’ istelf, if you know what I mean?

It is not canted.

Delbonnel decided to shoot the film w/ highly precise lenses. “We used Zeiss Ultra Primes, even though my first choice would have been the Cook S4 series” he says. He felt that the extreme almost “cliniclal” precision offered by the Zeiss lenses was less appropriate for this fairy tale than the warmer, softer feel offered by Cooke’s instruments….Delbonnel shot entirely w/ prime lenses almost exclusively wider than 32mm b/c Jeunet loves the perspective and depth they offer

As suspected the 2nd shot is very much a wide angle shot, as instead of the cathedral appearing closer than it presumably is, it is actually distanced as the fence is actually directly next to the basilique.

Viewing photos of the grounds, I propose that the shot was staged here on the walkway directly below the chain linked fence.

In which case, it was shot with a 24mm or even 20mm lens.
