My opinion is slightly slanted because I adore the work of Philip Glass. I saw this at the Beacon Theater in New York with a live performance by Glass and a full orchestra and I’ll tell you I left the theater completely floored. While I’m sure that performance enhanced the experience for me I’ve revisited this film several times and I still enjoy it. It is possible that the message and delivery today may seem outdated but I believe the synergy of the film and music still are a terrific ride.
However I do find 39.99 a little pricey even if both films are included.
It’s a wonderful film and you should see it on as large a screen as possible. I like Powaqqatsi even more. But it’s not for everyone, especially those who are turned off/annoyed by Philip Glass’ hypnotic scores. One film of this type that everyone seems to enjoy is Baraka, which has absolutely stunning visuals and, if you have a Blu-Ray player, one of the finest transfers ever made. And I think it’s only $14 here in the States.
The film is astonishing and it’s definitely worth seeing, even if it is a little expensive.
Criterion will release the trilogy Koyaanisqatsi/Powaqqatsi/Naqoyqatsi next year, so you may want to wait.
“Criterion will release the trilogy Koyaanisqatsi/Powaqqatsi/Naqoyqatsi next year, so you may want to wait.” – you serious, clark?
the qatsi trilogy is fantastic. why buy it at some mega store when clearly ebay or some online store is the best way to get it cheap. also, seems like netflix would have koyaanisqatsi. you should try looking there.
I really enjoy the Qatsi films, and I would love to be able to find Anima Mundi somewhere.
Powaqqatsi is my favorite of the three.

There’s this movie at the Virgin Megastore everybody’s been telling me to buy: It’s called Koyaanisqatsi.I never knew about it, but when I searched it on Google, I clearly had a surprise: That film is very popular amongst the “art-house compagnie”.Why didn’t I ever hear about it? I have no idea. And I’m thinking of buying it.I can’t rent it(Nothing at my local DVD Rental Store nor at the Art Center and Cultural Center of France-Beirut).It’s kinda expensive(39.00$ along with Powaqqatsi, it’s sequel I presume).
Is it worth buying it? Is it worth a collection? Or should I forget about it? I have no Netflix, I live in Lebanon, so don’t give me any advice regarding the word Netflix, haha.I also can’t watch a full movie on YouTube.Don’t ask why.
