Netflix Streaming: New, Noteworthy and Expiring Titles

^ Oh, I’ve seen Videodrome before. Sometimes I put stuff in my queue that I’ve already seen but might want to watch again cause I don’t know how the “Watch It Again” function works. How does it work? Only stuff that you give 4 or 5 stars too?

I’ve been putting off Kicking and Screaming for a very long time. I like some of Baumbach’s other stuff though. Are you just not a Baumbach fan, or that film in particular?

And Irma Vep does look pretty good, I might have to check that out. Ughhh, so many choices. It’s between:

Where the Sidewalk Ends
Ten
Salvador (been meanin to check this one out ever since I saw that Z Channel doc)
Irma Vep
The Son
and TInker Tailor Soldier Spy which will go back to the library for the second time tomorrow, watched or not :(

I just watched Ten knowing that it was going off. Check it out. It’s pretty great.

Captain: From what I gather from the Watch it Again section, I think it just lists all of the films that are currently on streaming that you have, at one time or another, watched on streaming.

I thought watch it again was made from stuff that you had rated. Most of the things in that section for me Ive never watched on Netflix.

Bijoux Alexanderplatz

hmmm… well, I’m only going by what shows up when I watch Netflix on my xbox, but most of the stuff wasn’t what I’d rated, just what I watched at some point on streaming, kind of like recently watched but for the not-so recent stuff.

Hmm, weird. The only reason I think that is because Certified Copy and Dogtooth are always popping up there and I saw both in the theatre and that was the only time I’d watched them.

Budd Boetticher’s The Bullfighter and the Lady.

You know, it is my boyfriend’s Netflix account and I don’t think he does a lot of ratings so that could explain the discrepancy.

Irma Vep is great. But I had a lot of trouble understanding a lot of JP Leauds dialogue since he speaks English mostly. I had to use the extra extra subs.

hmm ok i’ll keep that in mind

Amazon Instant Video just added Fernando Meiralles’ “360” and The Duplass Brothers “The Do-Deca Pentathalon”

Recently added on Netflix: “Philip the Fossil”, “The Dueling Accountant” and “A NY Thing”!

Just FYI though: Amazon Instant’s prices for 360 and Do-Deca are pretty pricey ($9.00 for standard definition) but considering that it’s really the only place to find those films for a while I’m ok with that :)

tomas.roges

Do-Decca for $9. That’s kind of crazy. Hopefully it’ll come to a theatre here, but if not then yeah I may end up getting it on amazon.

Dennis Brian

still talking myself into getting Peace Love and Misunderstanding and Bindlestiffs on amazon instant

I saw 360 last night.

I enjoyed it though it’s predictable, it’s well-made

Adam Wingard’s film A Horrible Way to Die is new on streaming. It stars Amy Seimetz and Joe Swanberg. Good stuff.

I had 45 minutes left in Irma Vep before it got cut off! (Well, I actually had to stop the film, but when I came back, it was no longer available. I guess they weren’t on Hawai’i time. :/)

Anyway, I didn’t realize the film was a comedy. I was actually getting into it, although some of the moments were cringe-worthy. (I liked the scenes with Leaud.) I must say that Maggie Cheung is pretty incredible; definitely one of my favorites.

A handful of newer films that I’ve been wanting to see have become available. Will be getting to them soon…hopefully.

Declaration of War

Goon

Newlyweds.

have been waiting for the Burns film for a while now. His Nice Guy Johnny is also available, but have yet to see that as well.

also the Guy Maddon film The Saddest Music in the World is expiring 7/9 so check it out if you haven’t. I will try to.

Bathory is being added soon.

It is in my all time top 10

I saw it last year and it has now just been released to US dvd and blu ray.

I’ve been wanting to see Bathory for a while now. Glad it’s finally coming out.

For you sports fans, I noticed a bunch of ESPN’s 30 for 30. I’ve seen the Reggie Miller vs. the Knicks episode (fun—especially the moments with Spike Lee) and Michael Jordan playing baseball (really good; I came away with even more admiration for Jordan as an athlete). The other episodes look really good, and they’re less than an hour.

Another dozen of so have expired from my queue in the last couple of days. The Ruling Class is out as of 8/7. Other than that we seem to be stable . . . for the next couple of weeks, anyway.

the brave new digital world we were all so looking forward to has proven to be just wonderful hasn’t it?

Matt Parks

So much for everything being available on-line.

I wonder if availability is going to be a serious problem for cinephiles. No Ruggles for Red Cap for me. :(

Second the 30 30 series

Ron Shelton did the Jordan one and it is great. The Kopple one on the Yankees is nice as well. The USFL doc is probably the most interesting but least accomplished
