New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Live Action

So, how exited are we?

Me? I’m very excited.

I read an interview somewhere in which Kevin Eastman said that they are going back to the spirit of the original comic. This seems to be in the trend of serious superhero movies coming out lately, and frankly that is pretty excellent to me.

Oh, and he also said CGI would be kept to a minimum. Obviously the turtles will be live action, but I also think it will be based more on karate and the such rather than explosions and such.

I’m not excited at all for this. Why can’t the things from my childhood just be left alone? I mean it’s fine if Hollywood wants to ruin someone else’s childhood, but leave mine alone already!

I don’t really see how hollywood will be ruining (okay it is very possible for them to ruin it) it if it has the original writer working for it. It seems like he has a legitimate desire to make a decent movie out of this.

I wonder if Eastman will find a way to put Julie Strain in it.

Hopefully as Casey Jones.

Wow, I never thought I’d be seeing a topic about Ninja Turtles in one of these forums!
I would’ve been excited about this back in the early 90s, but I’m willing to save judgement until the thing comes out. I rewatched the first 2 Turtle movies recently and the first one wasn’t QUITE as painful as I feared it would be, unlike other childhood films I revisited. I forgot that Elias Koteas was in it, and if you don’t blink there’s a young SAM ROCKWELL as one of the teenage thugs!

I remember that first one being really dark.

New York looked very scummy in that. More so than it even was.

Also, Eastman said he would really like to have Rockwell play Casey Jones or at least one of the thugs.

I hear that Leonardo is being played by Kenneth Branagh. Isn’t Goddard directing?

I could get excited about this. That first film is actually legitimately good, and really manages to create a successful synergy between the goofy slapstick nature of the long-running animated series and the darker, Ronin-esque evocations of the comics – or, at least, of the stories they were trying to adapt. There are certain issues that are wackier than anything that appeared in the cartoon. But, you know what I really wish? I’d love to hear that this new film will be partially visually inspired by Michael Zulli’s run on the series.

I mean, come on.
