I don’t think there has ever been a decent film about curling. There’s a forum discussion just waiting to happen.
Most recent viewings: Sorry, Wrong Number, and Au Hasard Balthazar. Both brilliant; no curling in either.

I’m from Vancouver BC. I’m proud of my city for taking film seriously. I’m not a film students, nor do I have any training as a filmmaker. I just like film, and I watch plenty of it. Also, I like to discuss. This is a wonderful website, and I’m glad I found it.
I’m a stock broker in St Louis who escapes into movies whenever possible. The Criterion Collection has made me love good movies, but I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.
Graphic Design student from Canada. One of my only goals in life is to watch all the criterion movies atleast once. so far I am long way from it but I am getting there, although some (very few) movies there I am not too sure about. Latest movie I saw was Summer Palace by Ye Lou.

Just stumbled here through Gizmodo…I am thoroughly excited, of course about the monthly Criterion festival selections, but also about new discoveries and being able to share with my friends out here in the boonies…hard to get a good movie when there’s no real theatre, and the rental joint doesn’t even carry Citizen Kane

Hello. I am not a film major and am pretty much self educated when it comes to films. However, within the last two years I have dedicated myself to seeing a vast array of movies (mostly foreign art house) and currently own almost 200 criterion DVDs. I love the new Criterion website and am thrilled to join this forum.
I’m a semi-recent college grad and have been in the ‘real’ world for roughly two years now. I didn’t major in film, though my passion for it rivals and/or surpasses that of the average film major. I’ve dabbled in some amateur screenwriting. I love the criterion collection, and I love various foods. I often find myself combining the two.

WOW!!! Hello everybody. Just found this place. And I can’t tell you what a relief it is to see there ARE other film geeks besides me. Yes, I’ve been a movie fanatic since about age 10 or so, and I can’t even estimate how many I have watched through the years. But as one gets older, the passion seems to fade – mainly because the movies they have been making the last 10 or so years are mostly forgettable – with a reminder here and there that they are STILL making good movies. But it’s mostly Criterion that I thank for keeping my passion alive – cause they always bring out films I never heard of which proves, if anything, there is STILL plenty of film history left to discover, watch, and learn. Absolutely, Dstryr. And while I won’t go as far as to say I share the sentiment, I do think it’s fairly overrated—just as virtually every cannonized film of any given genre tends to be.

I’m a writer and editor. My love of film has become my avocation. It started more than 40 years ago, when I was in college and first saw classics such as Battleship Potemkin, Citizen Kane, and The Passion of Joan of Arc. I had to put my interest aside for many years while my family was growing. However, I took it up again nine years ago, when I was divorced and living alone. I realized that there were many good films being shown on Turner Classic Movies, the Independent Film Channel, and the like that I could record on my VCR.
I had a copy of the software program Cinemania and I used it to generate a “wish list” table that I brought into my word processor. The list consisted of films that were top-rated by either Roger Ebert, Leonard Maltin, or CineBooks. I started with about 950 titles and checked them off as I acquired them. I learned to program the VCR and schedule my recordings. Later I began to supplement the collection with commercial VHS cassettes.
Eventually I started to convert to DVDs. Now I have a cable box with a built-in DVR. Attached to the box is an external, double-layer Sony DVD burner with video capture capabilities. I’m in the process of replacing as many of the VHS titles as possible with DVDs.
My wish list and collection have continued to grow over the years. Currently I have about 1,900 titles in my collection, of which about 1,500 are on my four-star wish list. I figure that I’ll run out of room when I hit 2,000 titles.
