That’s right. It just seems like he’s more willing to act silly than do a serious performance. And when he is intending to give a serious role, it’s buried under the mediocrity of the film. Example: Public Enemies.
Depp not wanting to trade off his looks is an insult to all of us who arent very good looking!
ANYBODY ELSE BASICALLY SICK OF BURTON AND DEPP?
Yes
And I concur; seeing Depp reduced to effeminate weirdos just doesn’t really work anymore. Well, since the two Ed movies anyways
If Depp has to be a total creepshow in every movie, then I say bring Terry Gilliam into the mix and adapt a few more Hunter S. Thompson books.
@ Christopher Lundie
Have you seen this movie? Geez, your comments scare me.
I am sick of Burton. He seems perfectly unable to do something else that what he has beeen doing for so long. To me all his movies are just the same and as somebody said before on this forum, his universe is maybz absolutely fantastic for 14-years-old teenagers but than, it becomes very boring.
As for Depp, well, I am surely sick of his work with Burton and his new career since Pirates of the Carribean but I must admit he’s done quiet good things before !
“Anybody else basically sick of Burton and Depp?”
Actually yes, basically that is what it comes down to. It’s weird, that moment when you switch from eagerly anticipating every movie they come out with to the sudden feeling of sheer boredom when you see the new Burton trailer and Depp pops his pretty Gothy head in.

What’s disappointing about Depp is that he IS a talented actor. But it seems like he just…throws his talents away on these boring, uninspired characters. He said in an interview once that he didn’t want to be cast as the pretty boy his whole life. He didn’t want to become type-cast for his looks.
But look at him now. Is that not what’s been going on his whole career? Instead of being cast as an attractive male he’s being cast as an attractive man acting like an effeminate weirdo. How is that any better?
