Part of what sucks about the rapid introduction of terminology in Internet culture is that that terminology doesn’t have enough time to have solidified technical definitions before they’ve already been reappropriated for some other use or even outright rejected from overuse. So ‘meme’ means the shared idea that propagates itself but also applies to a genre of memes that once were known as ‘macros.’ This thread features the meme genre known as ‘memes’ that were once macros.
