I just watched Stalker for the first time if you couldn’t figure that out from the title of the topic.

I know exactly what you mean. Tarkovsky’s best in my opinion. Have you seen Mirror yet?

Drew Gregory

Yes I have seen Mirror but I liked it the least out of the 4 Tarkovsky films I have seen. I still really liked it considering the other 3 were Andrei Rublev, Solaris, and Stalker. Do you think it might move up on my list with a second viewing?

Mirror has certainly moved up mine with further viewings, from barely top 100 (all films not just Tarkovsky), to firmly #2.

I think I need to watch ‘Stalker’ again. There were many moments that I found amazing, and, of course, the visuals were always brilliant, but I didn’t have the same sort of exultant reaction I’ve had to other Tarkovsky films.

…well that tears it. i’m adding Stalker to my netflix queue right now. i can’t take it!!! i have to see what the fuss is about!

Drew: You got the point – now let the film resonate for days in your head. I have written about it too often on this site, so will leave it at that. It is my favourite film and the one I still feel I need to more deeply understand. Tarkovsky put everything into it and expects no less from his viewers. Now you are hooked!

I’ve only seen “Solaris” and from the sound of it, need to add “Stalker” to my list soon

Thanks very much for the heads up Berzuc, even if it’s a long lead. I am not at all in touch with what’s been going on with MAD since they started doing screenings, and I want to make sure to catch this screening after many missed opportunities to see it on 35mm.

MAD seems to show very interesting stuff….92Y Tribeca also seems to be doing great, interesting screenings. Just when I thought NY rep couldn’t get better!
