Ommited Auteurs

There are some missing directors in the directory. Can we only choose favorite directors who have had Criterion releases?
To name but a few, where are Elaine May, Alan Clarke, Jonas Mekas, Jean Eustache, Michael Roemer, Tom Noonan or Andrew Bujalski?

Russ Meyer, Herschell Gordon Lewis, Roger Corman, Fred Olen Ray, Lucio Fulci, Ed Wood, and John Waters should all be added.

I think both of your lists are right on

I would add Wendell b. Harris Jr. and William Lustig to the list as well.

Don’t worry guys, we’re working on making sure there aren’t any missing. You don’t need to log them here, we’ll make sure you can add ones that aren’t already here.

I’m with Withnail. Some of the best titles in the collection are cult-oriented (the CARNIVAL OF SOULS set still holds the key to my heart). There should be a nod to Russ Meyer (even if rights acquisition is most likely an impossibility), Jose Mojica Marins, H.G. Lewis, on and on. Also, Frank Tashlin needs some love.

Jess Franco is actually listed as Jesús Franco. David F. Friedman and Sergio Corbucci should be on there.

I know a lot of people would/are going to be cross as a lot of exploitation directors are on there, such as D’Amato, Franco, Friedman and Russ Meyer. But they influenced film a lot.

If we are going to list Jess Franco than we can’t forget Doris Wishman.

Chuck Jones is the greatest American director of film comedy, and his name should definitely be added to the list.

we should fuse these two threads: this next one has more in it, so I guess it wins:
