Great stuff and thanks for the info Johnny!
I’m still looking for that laserdisc release of his alien landing broadcast and other clips- can’t find ’em even on ebay. Oh, well…
You ought to check out his advertisement for photocopiers.
There’s a really interesting Mercury Theatre broadcast of JULIUS CAESAR. Evidently the Mercurys were having a bad day, and you can hear Welles making remarks to an assistant director and finally bellowing “QUIET IN THE STUDIO!!!”
I CANT WAIT TO SINK MY TEETH INTO THIS. JOHNNY YOUR THE MAN!
FUNK YEAH, DITTO RUDY, THIS WINS
I third:
Thanks for putting up the most useful thread I’ve come across on Mubi in months…
Well before I was into movies,
I was waaaay into the WAR OF THE WORLDS broadcast.
I dunno if this duplicates what’s on archive.org, but there’s more radio Welles at
http://www.mercurytheatre.info/
enjoy.
johnny
if you’re a welles fan, and you haven’t been checking out his immense amount of radio output, you should go to archive.org
there’s YEARS worth of radio work from him and the mercury theatre, including a 3 1/2 adaptation of les miserables, which i’m listening to right now.
also, the lives of harry lime, a spin off on the third man.
it’s all there and free
i never would have guessed that he hosted a sketch comedy variety show!
