I wouldn’t say it turned to crap in season 4, it just went down from great to good.
I think the best runs of the series are the divided fleet arc, the Pegasus arc, and the New Caprica arc.

Bad? It’s about the perfect season in my opinion. Lithgow blew me away. I think it is the only thing I’ve ever seen that made me say: “Wow, maybe I’m too young for this.”
Adult, dark, disturbing, and deeply terrifying by the end… Season 5 disappointingly did not come close to following that up.
What didn’t you like?
Also: Seinfeld after the first season… So hilarious… I watch it to cheer me up.
And when Urkel became a main character in Family Matters, I loved it so much. I’ve seen every episode now… Never disappointed. It’s taught me life lessons and made me laugh pretty damn hard. Not even the Simpsons (which is also good) made me laugh while moving be quite a bit.
Family Guy, while having bore episodes sprinkled in each season, still makes me laugh hard constantly.
Game of Thrones is a show that pisses me off more and more, and I still watch it.
I think season 4 is when they stretched it too far and it lost any form of believability or seriousness. Some of the plots twists were just stupid too.

I have to agree with G-Legs here. Season 1 is by far my favorite. I feel the series started out with loveably eccentric characters, but then those characters got pulled toward the center more and more every season. Debb got less neurotic, Laguerda got less political. Maybe it’s because the first season was based on a novel and further seasons weren’t, but the cast just got more and more like the cast of a CBS crime procedural, and it lost the visual coolness of the first season.
But what lost me about season 4, even though I loved John Lithgow, is that Dexter behaved incompetently for the whole season. He turned from a detail oriented, risk averse perfectionist to being just plain sloppy, and the entire sequence of events that led to the twist at the end relied completely on this incompetence to be possible.
One show I’m shocked never to see anyone talk about is Nurse Jackie. I have to think it has something to do with some kind of aversion to female protagonists, but the writing has the perfect balance of humor and seriousness for its concept.
I agree Seinfeld is awesome. My favorite stretch is the Jerry arc.
Yeah, they changed the characters basic motivations and characteristics for further character development, but those characteristics were what made the characters interesting in the first place.
On the actual topic of this thread, I’ve recently been really enjoying Game of Thrones and Community, but the greatest tv show of all time in the hilarious THE BRAK SHOW!!!!!!!!
Also I hate the Ghost Harry stuff.
